Anybody have this issue?

So the issue is...

The moment I start eating, a ravenous monster inside me is awakened and I just feel like eating more despite already consuming a substantial amount of calories. I tried spreading out my meals while still under 1,200 calories to make me feel more satisfied. But every time I ate, it was just an opportunity for the monster to awaken again and possibly exceed 1,200cal, I felt hungrier and hungrier!

It seems if i fast/starve myself, I am able to control this hunger better. I can refrain from eating for 10 hours straight throughout the day, the mild growling of my stomach just makes me feel like a warrior, and i'm not even tempted to pick up anything to eat.

Its just the moment i'm supposed to actually sit down and put something in my stomach, and the food touches my lips, that I feel this deep need to stuff my face with 10x more of whatever's on the plate. That one bite and I go rolling down the hill.

Do you think that in my case, it would be better to just fast for the entire day, and consume just one meal consisting of all my calories.

Cravings are nasty and i'm tired of feeling the guilt and letting myself down, because of them :'(

Anyone have any similar problems or could give some advice? Deeply appreciated!!

Going without food all day makes you overeat. It doesn't sound like a good plan at all.

Depends what you're eating. If it's salty, sugary, or processed, our minds are addicted to those things and want you to eat more. That's why we can down a whole bag of Doritos or Oreos in one sitting. However, if it's a well balnced, healthy meal, try to wait 10 minutes after to feel full. If you seem hungry, ask yourself if you can eat EXACTLY what you just had. NOT snacks etc. If you couldn't eat that same meal, then you're full. Also- 10 hours straight without food is bad on many fronts, but especially in triggering your cravings. I would also advise you to guzzle water all day. It helps satiate you, cutting down on cravings as well as helping you feel full faster. Just my 2 cents

That sounds like a beginning of an eating disorder. You might want to talk to a doctor.

I think you're going to have to try different things to see what works best for you. Instead of fasting all day, I'd do the opposite--eat a little every few hours. See if that can keep the beast from roaring. When I was losing, I'd do that and I could just feel that my body needed something--like stoking a fire. It worked for me. Some people like to skip breakfast, or fast all day, or do 3 bigger meals, however it's the calorie total that counts, not when you eat. You shouldn't get so hungry that you lose control.

I am committed to improving this situation and would be open to sharing my food diary on MFP to anyone who has the time or would care to add me as a friend and take a look if there are any issues with my daily meals :")

while it does sound like a little CBT may be beneficial for you, maybe all you need is OMAD (One Meal A Deal). Some people are very successful eating like that.

I now eat a breakfast, a snack, a lunch, a snack, then dinner. I found that having a number of smaller meals keeps me on an even keel. This approach has helped control that urge to make up for the starving feelings and overdo the eating. Maybe that is worth a try for you.

Maybe 1200 calories isn't enough for you. It isn't even close to enough for me.

It is a mental thing and I am going through it too. Eight weeks ago my doctor started me on a VLCD (very low calorie diet) of 800 calories. I am supposed to be going up to 1200 but I am struggling because of the fear of eating too much. This isn't a good way to live so we need to find a way to get through this mental wall. Reading what too few calories can do to my body may be the motivation I need!

This happens to me sometimes when I am cutting and I realize I am either eating too low below my calories.

Yes I can totally relate, I am in a constant fear of exceeding calories! I don't want to bear the guilt after that :(

I would try for portion control and supplement that with snacking. By snacking I mean an apple or a single serving of almonds. Sitting down with an open bag of whatever is not going to cut it.

Hi thanks for your advice! I do feel that junk or high sugar foods don't satisfy me and leave me wanting more! I will try to keep that in mind for my future meals! Yup I do drink plenty of water ~

I feel the same way although I'm not eating 1200 calories. I'm at around 1600. So, I'll come home from work, for instance, and feel pretty hungry but I can put it off and put it off, but the minute I start eating it's like my hunger goes out of control and I can't stop. I think its part of being in a calorie deficit. I guess it doesn't happen to everyone. Something about eating in and of itself is an appetite stimulant for me.

Nothing you've described in your OP sounds remotely mentally healthy. There are red flags all over the place:

    1. Eating under 1200 calories isn't healthy except under some very specific (and very rare) circumstances
    2. Bingeing and wanting to eat everything in sight isn't healthy
    3. Setting yourself up for a binge-and-fast cycle isn't healthy
    4. Feeling guilty about your eating patterns isn't healthy
    5. Thinking about IF or OMAD as "starving yourself" isn't healthy

It may be time to talk to someone about your relationship with food. Here are places you can start:

1200 is just enough to leave most people revenous. Eat more.
