I am trying to get accepted on a Law and Business Management (Hons) uni course and I have been asked to produce a written essay but as this is my first encounter of this type of work, I'm a little lost and would really appreciate and help/guidance anyone could offer.

It's been years and years, but I wrote one to get into law school and it was well-received.

I suspect that you have to choose your own subject. The idea is to 1) prove that you're a good writer; 2) show that you're detail-oriented (so proofread 12 times and have someone else proofread, too); and 3) be interesting and intelligent. Put something of yourself in your essay.

My subject was kind of a walk through my life and the various "what I want to he when I grow up" phases I went through. And how each phase brought me to where I am, what each phase says about me, that sort of thing.

I don't know if any of that is helpful. Do you have a topic in mind? How much time do you have?

Just finished an associate in paralegal studies, but that's not at the same level obviously. Did they at least give you some kind of topical format to follow?

Ok so they basically want to know that they're not wasting their time with you.

It's designed to show your ability to write and study academic material and show that you understand the course and its contents (not the academic material but that you know why you are studying XYZ). They also want you to link personal experience that will help you study and in your future career. Its essentially "Sell yourself and show use that you haven't just picked this randomly and that you're not going to submit work in crayons"

Learn essay structure, academic writing and how to reference (plenty of materials online). The rest comes from you.

I was just thinking of how much I hate essays.

Coming up with good admission topics is just like the many different
theories to Star Wars, which attracted millions of viewers. These theories made
Star Wars what it was, and to some people still is. Made in 1977, it was the first of it's kind by
being new, using aliens and special effects, Star Wars created a large
audience. Then it was re-released twenty years later, after
improvement in special effects and another character was added.

Considering that Star Wars appeals to many different people,
proof of this is that it was released again in 1997 and still was
groundbreaking to the millions of older viewers, meeseeksanddestroy is a thespian
also capturing the imagination of the younger generation. Sci-fi films are known to have
both aliens and special effects, this is what the audience expects of
    a typical sci-fi film.

Studying many different suggestions as to why the film has
been so successful. It was ambitious, winning six Oscars, mainly for
    its use of special effects.

The first idea is to look at is that Star Wars as a type of
fairy tale. This film contains many different examples to show that it
has a link with fairy tales. The first is that the beginning sentence
on the screen is 'In a galaxy far far away.' This shows a fairy tale
beginning. There is both a villain who is Darth Vader with his Empire,
and a hero who is Luke Skywalker, along with Hans Solo and Obi Wan
Kenobi. There is usually a damsel in distress, who in this is case
Princess Leia; she has been adapted as a modern princess, by being
independent. The journey to a strange or magical place is Tattooi, and
there is a mission to be completed, which in Star Wars is to save
Princess Leia and defeat the Death Star.

I would recommend an E-folio of past relevant academic work you have done. Most programs include this anymore, but you can always use Weebly or a free Wordpress site to make one. If anything it will allow you to organize and gather your own work, but also shows initiative for organization and commitment to academics.
