I think I will split it into small sections of 10 seconds and build it up from there if I can. I may not reach my monthly goal, but I would like to try.

I think I can speak for the group when I say welcome. The more the better. When I started I had a goal of 30 minutes and really struggled to meet it. I have been with it 4 months now and I am having a much better time of it. (my second month in was a complete failure for me, but I have stuck with it and it is now paying off). I have back issues off and on, which are much better now with a stronger core. I would advise taking it very slow, and listening to your body. For me, it has really helped my back to have my core strengthened. That is not the case for everyone. But I think if you just start slow and stay positive with it you could see a difference too. Welcome to the group, post as often as you want, we will love to see your progress. Good luck!!
All are welcome, and you certainly can set your own goals. The point is to increase your core strength, and you can do that by pushing yourself just a bit harder each month until you get where you want to be. Modify planks any way you need, you will find no judgement here. Welcome to the challenge!

I just started lifting 14 weeks ago. I am new to planks this month after picking up The New Rules of Lifting for Abs. There are some great progressive plank exercises in there so one is not just doing the same plank just for longer and longer or more and more sets. I am still just on the regular and side planks for one of the workouts but the other workout has me trying to do sets of 10 reps at 10 second planks with feet raised on a bench along with 5 reps at 10 seconds each of side planks for 10 seconds each also with feet raised on a bench. I was barely able to get in 4 and 3 sets respectively. These are so much harder than the standard planks. I can't believe that at some point they expect me to do these for 45 seconds straight.
