Ladies, did losing weight make you lose breast size? Considering breast reduction surgery.

Hello,
I just need some hope from those who may have had similar issues! I've been suffering from back pain and muscle spasms for years. I am 5'2, 145 pounds and a size 32i breast size. My goal is to lose 30 pounds. I used to be 115 pounds and a triple D but even then I had back problems. It seems like it has gotten so much worse the past couple years after gaining all of the weight. I am hoping losing weight will reduce the size of my breasts and hopefully help with the back pain. If not I will need a breast reduction because the pain is becoming exhausting. Did any of you lose breast sizes along with the weight loss? Did losing weight help with any pain you had?

You lose some, but if you were big before you were overweight, you probably will still be big when you lose the weight back down to what you were. I had breast reduction and it was the best thing I ever did. Even when I gained weight after surgery, they stayed relatively small - much smaller than if I hadn't had the surgery.8

I am an allover gainer. One of those rare people that's not an apple or a pear. When I lose weight, I do lose some off my breasts, although they aren't that large to begin with.
It sounds as if you are a top gainer (apple) but even at your lowest weight, you still have large breasts that bothered you when you were pretty light. 30 lbs will probably get you back to that size, maybe, but you know as an aging woman you tend to pack weight on differently than when you were younger so you may find that you hold on to it.
I would say if they used to bother you back then, that's not going to change. I've know a few woman who have had the surgery and they've never regretted it.3 -
Mine are bigger now but they were always pretty sizable, even when I was skinny. To get through until you have surgery, if you do, consider getting professionally fitted for a great bra. Wearing the right size with a supportive band made a big difference for me, both appearance wise and in terms of upper back pain.6

I had a breast reduction. I was an I and went to a B because I hated my boobs. I lost weight and my boobs stayed. However now I gained weight and my boobs have grown back to a D or DD ( Victoria Secret). If they get any bigger or if I can't lose them on this journey I'll def lay down for another reduction.6

I did. But even now I'm still a 32 DD/DDD. I don't have any back problems anymore, but I think that is largely from increasing my core and back strength as I lost weight.9

I lost "my girls" first when I lost over 50lbs ...and even tho I gained back about 12 lbs in the 4 years since I did not regain "my girls"...booo hoooo!.... those were what I wanted to keep went from 38DD to a 34/36C at this point...
Good luck!!3 -
Everyone is different.
Personally, I had to get to a sub-20 BMI (5'4" and about 118 lbs) before I saw significant change and they were pretty much the last thing to go, unfortunately. At my heaviest, 145 lbs (BMI 25), I was about a 32G, and at ~25 lbs lighter I'm more like a 28F, which is actually significantly less volume and doesn't look out of place on my frame. They fit in the cups of a 32D from Victoria's Secret now, basically, and I haven't had any pain in ages from them whereas it used to be constant. I fit in clothes now too!5 -
You're not that overweight so I'd say there's a good chance that they'll stay pretty big.
I went from 36 DDD (38 DD for some brands) to 34 D (and gained back a couple pounds and gained another cup size again). If your genetics have to have big breasts, nothing but a reduction will help you, unfortunately.2 -
I think if your body likes to put the weight in your boobs it will find a way to do that.
I had a reduction and there are other benefits - like the "lift" - that still make it totally worth it. I don't buy bras with underwire anymore.
I'm 5'2" and in 2013 I was 155 and a 34F. I had a reduction and went down to about a C. Then I gained 25 pounds (boo!) and went up to about a DD. Now I'm back to 155 (yay!) and still around a D. My goal is 132ish and I hope to be back around a C.

I've never been very good about wearing the correct bra size but I've lost around 50 lbs and have gone from wearing a 38DD to wearing a 34DD (actually a 34DDD fits better but is harder to find). My bust measurement has gone down about 6.5" so they're definitely smaller. Before I gained weight I was a 32D so I have hopes that I'll get back to that size eventually.2

My boobs are sad little things now; wait for surgery lol2

I lost 40lbs and went from a 36DD to a 32DD so a pretty big change in the cup size. I was very worried about ending up with the deflated boobs that i've seen mentioned on here a lot but I seem to have had the opposite effect where it seems like my boobs are much better at holding themselves up now that there's not a bunch of extra fat to hold too. I've fortunately never really had back pain with them though.1

A 60-lb loss has resulted in a reduction from 44G to 36DD. Still working on another 20 lbs, and I'd love to continue shrinking. I'm seriously considering a lift when I hit 2 years of maintenance. We'll see.3

Yes, my size fluctuates with my weight. Yours may or may not - it depends on how much fat tissue vs. mammary tissue you have.
Doctors here want to see you maintain a healthy weight for a little bit before you get it done, so that way you know you're not going to have weight related gain (or loss!) of breast tissue.
I am waiting to get mine done (currently 32GG, would like to be a 32D). But I want to make sure that I can maintain my weight and be in a spot with taking some time off from training will not be such an issue (it will always be an issue... sigh).

That's the FIRST place that I lose weight...why can't it come off ANY OTHER place on my body? I have never had big ones though. For you it might be different since you were always on the bigger side...0

When I see can you spot reduce posts I think, I can lol I lose in the boobs first thing too1 -
Unfortunately for me the more weight i lose the smaller my boobs but im not bothered1
-
...Maybe lol
But I never really had a lot going on outside of being obese honestly. If you had large breasts causing back problems pre- weight gain I would unfortunately expect that to still ring true after you lose it this time as well . I would imagine a reduction would potentially be easier with less to reduce though?

I am 22 and recently have gained 25 pounds. I am now a 32ddd and hate it. I have lost ten pounds and am at 142 now and I am a 32d now and a lot more happy. Before I was a 32A and 10 percent body fat in high school. That was the best shape I was ever in so I would say yes1

70+ lb loss for me = going from a 38F to a 36DD
I can bra shop at Target! Couldn't do that before.2 -
My boobs were the first thing that shrunk :sad:1
-
Yes, out of the blue (which is how I lose weight... in clumps rather than "weekly". Last week I was still a full C. This week suddenly I couldn't even wear my bras and had to emergency-shop for B cups. It all happened very suddenly.2
-
Yes. went from b/c to an A cup. I only lost 12-13 lbs and wasn't overweight to begin with!

Yes. From a 38DD to a 34C.3

Breasts are comprised of mammary tissue and fat. If you have a large amount of mammary tissue then weight loss will probably not help much. Not a problem I have, but literally not one woman I know who had a reduction regrets it. They're all pretty much thrilled with the results!2

My breasts are the first thing to get bigger (if I gain weight) or smaller if I lose weight.
When I lost 54lbs a few years ago, I went from a 40E cup to a 36DD. I will always have large breasts unless I have surgery but they are definitely notably smaller and I am much happier with them.1 -
Did any women with large breasts and back pain get relief from the pain after starting a weight lifting program and strengthening back muscles? Curious if this is a thing.2
-
My thoughts are if you are already a small band size/large cup size then no, you won't see a noticeable loss in breast size. At my heavier weights, I'm a 36J, now after losing 15 pounds, I'm a 34J, so the loss is proportional but not significant IMO. If I lose another 15, I might get down to a 32J (I have bras in my closet this size from before) but won't get any smaller.
I regret not having a true reduction after I was done having kids. I have a lift with a slight reduction, mostly because I just wanted them put back where they belonged after breastfeeding.
10 years later, I just went and saw a plastic surgeon who told me a second surgery is very dangerous because he would need to recut the same incisions and he worries about bloodflow. He's seen very bad results before and told me he wouldn't do a true reduction on me. He might be able to do some lipo which I'm seriously considering.
Strengthening your back helps a lot but in the long run there is just so much stress on your neck and shoulders from all the weight. If you're an office worker at a desk, that strain is multiplied! I'm 47 now and have major indents in the bones on my shoulder from bra straps and constant neck pain.
You aren't really overweight at all so I don't think you will see much change. Go have the reduction! I wish I would have done it 10 years ago. The surgery is not very difficult nor is the recovery.3 -
I've lost a lot of weight, and my breasts are smaller now than they've ever been, even at this weight 20 years ago. I'm pretty sure this is because I'm much more physically fit than I have been at any time. But even still they're large.. I wear a 34 DD right now (down from a 40 J!) I have back pain, I can't say how much is due to my breasts, but I do know improving my core muscle strength and maintaining good posture are quite beneficial, as is wearing properly supportive bras.1

Yes. After strengthening my back/core muscles the pain was gone. Even when I was still in 36 E/F cup size, a few months of increasing my strength and the pain was gone. My size has decreased now (32DD/DDD), but the pain has been gone for awhile.3
