Ok so im just getting back into trying to lose weight since im done having kids lol im 5'9 279.2lbs on monday weighed in last night and 276.1. Im using the herbalife shake just as quickstart until my supply runs out. I go to the gym 3 MWF and each time i go i do a workout in the AM and PM workout when my husband gets home to keep the kids. My goal weight is around 220 or less but no more than that. I just started logging what i eat to MFP today and i eat way under the calories it says (especially since im on the herbalife) and i dont eat back the calories i burn is that fine i keep hearing i have to be in a calorie deficit to lose weight but how much of a deficit is overdoing it?

Well according to MFP its 1580 but i only eat around 800-950. I only eat one healthy meal a day i.e fish w/side of veggies spinach, mushrooms) or baked chicken with veggies like i said im also doing herbalife shakes one for breakfast one for lunch which are meal replacements. This is only until my herbalife supply runs out which should be in another week or so. This question is for when i go back to eating regular meals. I doubled my water intake(actually all i drink now is water)67-80oz a day ive never tried weight loss by caliore counting before which is why im confused about the calories deficit thing everyone keeps talking about i thought that meant to eat less calories. I cant stress enough i only when hungry and after drinking this much water (i guess its from that) im rarely hungry throughout the day and now watching what i eat this is what my calorie intake logs as when i put it in MFP

I know what you are going through , exercising and eating clean, all that with kids. It's stressful! So last thing you want to do is eat less, because it's going to sabotage you. You can go on for few days, maybe weeks, but thing is we want to do it for life. So my advice is to set your goal once again and stick with it. Measure yourself bc sometimes scale isn't going to move but by measuring yourself once a week, you will see the change. There will be the days when you can't do it, you eat some sweet or just feel to tired to work out. Don't be hard on yourself, it happens, but never ever give up! Just go on, no matter if you didn't do very good today, give yourself some time. I was writing this as my response to you but also to remind myself.

Carbs don't make you gain weight, eating in a calorie surplus does. 950 calories is way too low calorie for someone of your height and weight. You can comfortably lose weight on the calorie allowance that MFP has given you, that already includes a calorie deficit. You do not need to starve yourself in order to lose weight, it doesn't set a good example to your kids either.

You will sacrifice lean muscle as well as fat and will not be getting the nutrients your body needs. Please check out the stickied posts at the top of the board.

There are no "weight gaining foods", only weight gaining diets. Everything on that list is fine to eat as long as you're in a calorie deficit.

Well, it's not just calorie deficit that matter, at least not to me. The most important is to stay in your calorie range but with healthy food. So, stay in your calorie range (1580/ eat!) and you will have deficit, for more deficit- work out. For busy mom's I recommend HIIT or Tabata work out. Also don't cut out all your favorite food, eat it once in a while or chose healthier version of it. Try brown rice, whole grain pasta or bread ( but use good once, like ''Barilla'' have very tasty whole grain pasta ) and take care of portion size.

Start with walking and get to grips with logging your food on MFP. Small steps :-)

Oh ok i didnt know that i thought you had to eat lower than what it says to lose weight. I dont feel weak or anything from eating only 800-950 calories a day. I was misinformed on so many thanks lol thanks everyone
