I so look forward to the day I come here to see someone upset that they didn't have time for breakfast this morning, put themselves into *does not exist* and haven't lost a single pound all afternoon.15

ACV, raspberry ketones, garcina cambogia, et al should all be replaced with *woo*. It would save a lot of time. And while we're at it, please can any mention of Dr Oz, be replaced with *snake-oil peddling scam merchant*.
Add Keto OS to that list as well please. I'm sick of hearing of that expensive woo.4 -

I try to be a kind person and not add negativity to the world but Dr. Oz is one of the few people I truly hate. My aunt takes his word as gospel and I have tried to tell her his show is just an infomercial for his latest scam product so he can make money off innocent (ignorant) people. You are right he really is a snake oil peddling scam merchant.
Sorry for the little rant, Dr. Oz sets me off8 -

Hey look! They've given us a 'woo' button.19

Question: is it "woo" as in "scamwoo," or as in "Woooooooooo!"2 -

I'm assuming it's "woooooooooo!", but I'm going to make it my personal "scamwoo" button.6 -

Apparently both, according to the announcements forum post about it. Welcome, ambiguity!3 -

You can't be that kind if you are that willing to insult all the other reputable snake oil peddling scam merchants out there.
[ETA - Oh, and I love the new 'woo' button.]5 -

Guess we'll find out the next time someone starts an ACV thread.1 -

Holy kittens a multi-purpose woo button!?
I'd prob never use a "wooooooo" button other than to cheer for a "woo" button!!

I really don't get this. When I Google starvation mode, I am sent to journals about Adaptive thermogenesis, which is a fairly well studied and observed phenomenon. Just like being too hot will cause your body to react and cool down, being too cold will cause cause systems to shut down, not eating or drinking enough will eventually cause your body to protcect vital systems by trying to use less energy and eventually shutting down the less vital systems first, in order to prevent you from losing too much, and dying.
So what am I missing here?

There is no such thing as starvation mode. If you eat too few calories, you certainly won't gain weight and you'll lose if you are in a deficit. Adaptive thermogenesis reduces calories out which slows down weight loss because a person isn't burning as many calories as they think they should so their deficit isn't as large as they think it is. It's still all about energy balance.6 -
The "starvation mode" people talk about has a person staying the same weight (or even gaining) because of eating too few calories and the way to start losing is to eat more calories. Adaptive thermogenesis isn't that.

Thank you! That makes more sense.1
