I know avocados are all the rage. I feel like I am the only person out there who doesn't love them!

Nope, I'm with you. I don't even like them let alone love them!2

I've tried. I really have. I just can't. It's the texture, and the lack of any discernible flavour, and their disturbing propensity for turning brown...
It doesn't help that over here in Australia, one of our idiot politicians said that the reason young people can't afford to buy their own homes is because they spend too much money on avocado and toast for brunch. Now avocados are mocked roundly and blamed for all the ills befalling society.9 -
I've never liked them, I grew up hating guacamole. Seriously the only reason i bought avocados was for making soap. (I make luxurious soap from scratch).
But I've found that I love using them for baking now. I make a super moist mug cake with a mix of avocado and applesauce.
And I'll eat guacamole when it's in 7 layer dip. Other than that, I don't do avocado.3 -
Making soap from scratch? That sounds amazing. Im sure Its better than any soap you can find at the store! Never thought of using avocado for baking. Sounds interesting!0

If you look at the ingredients list you'll discover that 99% of the soap that you find at the store isn't actually soap, it's detergent. We call it soap the same way we call facial tissue "Kleenex". It's just become the common word for cleansing bars and liquids. True soap is lye+fat (either vegetable fat, animal fat or a mix of both. I use vegetable fats i.e. Oils).
I love making soap from scratch. I make really luxurious soap so I add things to it like avocado, goat milk, and pure silk. Yes, real silk fibre, that gets dissolved in the lye. Way better than what you find in stores. And the great thing about is that the more you learn about the science of it you can make different soaps for different types of skin needs, dry, sensitive, babies, hard core cleansing or really gentle.
Sorry I get a bit carried away when I talk about it because it SO MUCH FUN! It's one of the ways I totally geek out about science.

Avocado purée and applesauce are both used as butter replacements in baking. It can help lower the calories. So far I'm finding that a mix of the two work best for the moisture I'm going for in my mug cakes.9 -
The soap making really interests me! The only soap my skin was ever able to handle was dove. But my facial skin Is so oily! Especially now that it's summer. Would you be able to make something for greasy skin? Lol. Have you ever considered selling your soap? I also have a 13 year old son who is super active. He takes 2 showers a day and he goes through soap like crazy0

I am one of those young people. Damn those smashed avos for ruining my chances of buying a house. Nevermind the fact that the median house price in Sydney is now well over $1 million.7 -
Send me all your avocados please. I will take them.12

$$$ I have no idea why something that grows on a tree and is picked easily costs $1.68 each.
The government subsidizes corn, wheat, and soybeans. Why not apples and broccoli?2 -
I don't do avocados. They are a nice source of good fats though.1
-
I started eating avocados with a spoon out of the skin when I was in kindergarten in the 60s. Still at it. So much Yum.2

I love avocados and probably eat them daily. To each their own. My husband doesn't like them.1
-
I love them. I assume they are expensive because I am in Chicago, not California, so they aren't local or even close.
I'm going to try making some avocado ice cream this week (been experimenting with my ice cream maker.)
Mostly just posting to say that I can't help but read the first post as if it were being said by Jerry Seinfeld, even in 2017. This is disturbing.2 -
I used to not like the taste of them but now love them, as many foods ive grown to appreciate.1
-
I'm pretty neutral about them. I love guacamole, but could pass on avocado otherwise. There are better things I enjoy with my calories.1
-
I love them. My husband is allergic to them. He loves coconuts. I am allergic to those. They are both all the rage right now, but neither is more magical than any other fruit.2

Love avocados, trying to grow my own indoors so I can get good and ripe ones...so hard to find a good one in the stores...<sigh>2

Hate avacodos! No guac for me either yuck0

I was always indifferent to avocados. Then I learned to like them for the nutrients and the healthy fats.
Avocado toast changed the game for me. Mashing one up, adding seasonings and topping it off with a sunny side up egg and a couple of slices of tomato on rye bread that is slightly toasted is so yummy to me. Plus it keeps me full for a long time.
My local farmers market has much better prices compared to the grocery store. I currently get 3 small ones for $0.75 or 3 medium ones for a dollar. They are ripe though, but I learned how to preserve them.2 -

I'm from New Mexico...avocados have been all the rage for a very, very long time here. I've lived here for 30+ years and avocados have pretty much been a staple food for as long as I can remember...I love them...the fact that they're packed with nutrition is a bonus.1

I absolutely love them.
What's not the love? They've got a smooth, creamy, fatty flavor. For these these are an essential addition to my lunches and breakfasts. I love them in guac, but also just cut up w/ some salt and pepper.0 -

If you buy them and they r not ripe just put them in a drawer for a couple of days and they ripen very quickly. Love avocados!

I'm on the fence about avocados. I like guacamole and I don't mind them cut up in small chunks in a salad. In both instances, they are flavored by things around them. I am not sure if I would ever just eat them plain as they have minimal flavor and an odd consistency.0

I don't know anyone who eats them plain...they're and accompaniment. I do sometimes scoop it right out of the shell, but always with salsa or something.1 -
For any Canadian avocado lovers, this is awesome:

Use as much as you need, keep the rest frozen. Always perfectly ripe, too.1 -
Mmmm... avocados! I like to make my own guacamole and then instead of eating them with chips I eat them with cucumber slices. Also, cut an avocado in half, put it facedown on the grill... then put a scoop of salsa in where the pit should be... voila!1
-
When my mom was pregnant with me she ate an entire avocado and an entire bag of popcorn (those old school ones in there long, clear bags) EVERY DAY.
I blame her for my avocado love. And my love of salty snacks. I could easily eat an avocado with every meal, but... calories0 -

Can confirm, also from NM and avocados have been a staple in my house for as long as I can remember. They used to be a dessert in my house...scoop it out straight out of the shell with some salt. I would be lost with avocados in my life.0
