Gained 10 lbs in a month

Hi guys,
Recently, I entered back into the realm of trying to be healthier after a couple months of slacking off.
So last month I weighed in at 122lbs and 5'7.
Despite eating on average 1500-1800 calories per day and (according to my fitbit) burning about 2200-2500 calories a day, I currently weigh in at 130lbs.
The goal wasn't really to lose weight but to partake in a healthier lifestyle but I surely wasn't expecting this result!
Is this common to have gained 10 lbs so quickly ?
(Note: calories are rather accurate as I weigh everything and make everything myself, admittingly having a cheat meal every second Saturday likely pulling my daily for that day into the 2500-3000 calories range)

well...if you've just weighed yourself once...you could be retaining some water just on that single day. maybe you can open up your dairy so we can see what you've been eating. 10lbs in a couple months would be possible but doesn't make sense if what you are saying it factual.

Why would you weigh yourself only once a month? I'm curious not criticizing. I weigh myself daily.

Because weight loss wasn't my goal

What is your goal? I weigh everyday or so to make sure I am maintaining my weight.

My FitBit is inaccurate for me giving me a daily burn of 2100-2500 cals...my TDEE is 1800. And was proven to be true based on 3 weeks of daily data.

I have since calculated TDEE- set that # less 20% as my daily goal and unsync'd my Fitbit.

If youve started, increased, or changed your workout, you could be retaining water for muscle repair. Weight normally fluctuates a few pounds every 1-2 days. If you weighed on a "low" day before, and then on a "high" day, that could easily account for 5 pounds.

Did you happen to weigh yourself after (on the Monday-Wednesday) your cheat meal when you saw the 10lb gain? If time of month or ovulation is also pending, the gain could be mostly water weight.

    This...

And two data points is really not enough to see what's actually going on.

Also, if you actually put on 10 Lbs I would imagine your clothes would be fitting much more uncomfortably...I put on about 10 Lbs every winter and my pants go from being a little lose and on the cusp of needing to go down a size to a, "yup...time to start cutting this winter weight because if I eat anything I need to undo my buttons."

Could be muscle, water weight, hormonal. How are your clothes fitting now? Weight is really unreliable, I suggest measuring your progress through measurements and pictures. Especially since you said Weight Loss isn't your goal.

My fitbit overestimates my burns currently by about 350cal/day. If I didn't weigh for a month and ate according to it I would gain 3lbs in a month.
I weigh daily so I managed to catch that it overestimates before I gained anything substantial.

It might not be fitbit in your case. But weighing daily would've helped you.

You're tall and quite thin, so I'm not going to assume you want to lose.
I'll ask: when did you weigh yourself. Are you ovulating, are you menstruating. Have you started a new birth control approach, did you fly, did you eat sushi or chinese food, how long were you at 122....??

Fixed it. It's not 8 pounds of muscle in a few weeks. Maybe in a year, if you were lifting heavy with a Progressive program.

The rest is on point, though. And two times weighing yourself isn't going to tell you much. Unless you ate 30,000 calories over your maintenance, you didn't gain 8 pounds of fat.

Could it have been lady time? I have a regular cycle and have gained up to 10 lbs. it's sad but true. Give it a few days or maybe a week.
Also check sodium intake, or if you had a brutal day out and about in the elements maybe your body is trying to rest and repair.
After going to the county fair I held onto some water weight from my guess is too much sodium from fair foods and drinking a ton of water, being in the sun.

If you are doing any kind of weight lifting, you might have gained muscle. The scale can lie with muscle mass. Just go by how your clothes fit - they never lie. If your clothes are fitting the same, ignore the scale. If they are looser, you probably gained muscle mass. If they are tighter, you probably gained fat.

    Isn't 122 at 5ft 7 borderline underweight?

    What are your goals?

    No.

Definitely not 10lbs of muscle in a month in a deficit. Muscle building takes a lot of time, a progressive heavy lifting program and a surplus (or newbie gains if one is new to lifting/overweight).

My money is in fluid retention.
