Knee pain something serious? ACL?

So I know no one here is probably a Dr, and if you are then hopefully you can help. I'm trying to avoid going to the doctors at all possible because I really can't take off from work to do so
But Monday I went running on a soccer field for about 7 miles. After wards my legs were heavy and sore but no pain. The next day my ankles, calves were swollen and my legs were in a bit of soreness, could barely walk but that's kind of typical of working out,my knees hurt a little too.( can't remember if just one or both) but yesterday, Wed my left knee was in a bit of pain.
The swelling went down in my legs, but I never had swelling in my knees. And I never experience a "pop or poping noise"but my left knee was in a bit of pain and was very sore. I could bend and straighten it but it felt like it was super stiff and it hurt on the outer inside of my knee. It still hurts today and I'm trying to elevate it and ice it.
Has anyone experience this before? I'm scared I might of damaged my knee

I have torn an ACL and 2 MCL, you would know it if you did. Small tears can happen and rest is really all you can do, if the pain isn't reducing in a week see a doctor. MCLs will come with stability problems.1

With a sudden onset of swelling, I would be worried about DVT. Go to the doctor.0

Go see a doctor. It may be nothing, it may be serious. Only an MRI will tell.0

My sports physiotherapist explained the popping in my knee. He described the tendon as like a rubber band, and old inflammation creates bubbles or hardened spots. These crackle like popcorn when I walk. He treated it as not a big deal. It's also with me for life.1

But I'll clarify. I am a beginner runner (not conditioned runner haha) I did not properly stretch ( I regret that ) when I ran I did not twist anything or fall. Nothing popped.
I'm 27, 137. I'm going to an urgent care after work and hope to hear that it's nothing serious. I'll keep posted. Wish me luck

you may just have aggravated your joints from running unconditioned. 7 miles is a lot of pounding and if your joints aren't toughened up, it will hurt.
And Just FYI urgent care probably can't do anything for you. Dont waste your money, they will probably just tell you to ice it and bill you for a very overpriced knee brace. Even if they xray it wont give enough info and they wouldn't even be set up to deal with whatever info they get. Your best bet is to make an appt with a sports doctor or knee specialists.0 -

It doesn't help in the moment, but are you on any sort of training plan? As a beginning runner, 7 miles is a lot. And I apologize if I'm reading too far into the word beginner in your case because there isn't much background info. To have that many issues on just one run may indicate that you're taking on too much too soon either way. DOMS is one thing, but not being able to walk isn't normal if you're properly conditioning for the distance.
I made that mistake and still continue to have knee problems a year later, despite seeing a sports doctor and undergoing physical therapy.
Good luck at the doctor. Hopefully it's nothing too serious.

Could be a torn meniscus. I just found out both of mine are torn. That requires surgery, but I think it is a pretty easy operation.

I would actually argue that urgent care would be better than nothing. They can still refer OP to a sports medicine doctor. That's actually exactly how my knee injury played out. Went in to urgent care knowing they couldn't do much but they got the referral process started that day instead of waiting at least two weeks for my GP. Mine could also order MRIs, it just involves going to the hospital after the urgent care meeting and saved an ER bill. Not saying all clinics are the same, but it's possible to get the ball rolling without the wait as long as you're adamant about what you want. Just a thought.
With that in mind, OP, if you see this before going in, I would ask about a referral right away. Maybe they'll do it right then and there; maybe they won't. Worth a shot.

I would argue it might well be if OP really went from no running to 7mi without first conditioning her legs. OP, you should still go see the doctor, you may well have injured yourself - I just wouldn't be super surprised if it turns out to be nothing other a significant inflammatory reaction to the unaccustomed abuse of just about every muscle, bone, tendon, ligament and joint in OP's feet and legs.0 -
Full ACL tear in my left knee last year . And my right knee is swelling at the moment .Sport , Overuse , injury , work etc .
Get plenty rest and try getting a sports massage0 -
Reality check for you. You need to see a doctor. I don't know what your situation at work is but to be very blunt with you your company really doesn't give a damn if they have to replace you.
Now let me speak from experience as far as knee pain. I have an arthritic knee that I tore Parts skiing. I have no ACL it's totally degenerated. I've had two scopes on the knee and eventually the knee is going to have to be replaced. You may have something as simple as some soreness in the muscle and the popping maybe something stupid or could be something totally serious I'm not going to give you a diagnosis cuz everybody is different the only person who can properly evaluate your situation is an orthopedic specialist.0 -
Could be meniscus related, See a doctor asap, to avoid any further damage.0

Update: I went to an urgent care yesterday because after work my calf was extremely swollen! I was a bit worried it might be a blood clot. So when I visited the Urgent care, The doctor presssd on my knee tried to bend it side to side, he pushed on my knee while I resisted all this NO pain.
The doctor advised that a MRI was not necessary to keep it elevated and keep off of it for 24hrs. He said it might be a minor tear.
I kept it elevated and only walked when I had to.
Woke up this morning and the swelling had decreased sufficiently! I'm icing it and keeping it elevated at work and wearing compression socks too.
It's still hard to walk on though. I can bend my knee, but when I walk on it it's still a dull pain sometimes sharp. I'm hoping that goes away.0 -

Glad you went to the doctor. I'm sure he got it right.
If you tear a ligament, there will be considerable play in your knee.
Here's what I know. (This, from an amateur, mind you, but one with some experience.)
People don't usually tear their MCl without tearing their ACL, and when you tear your ACL there is a loud, unmistakable pop, almost always. If you did not hear a pop and feel pain immediately, it is unlikely you tore your ACL, which means you probably did not tear your MCL.
At least not all the way on these. And, small, incomplete tears can and do heal, though some rest is often recommended.
You can google "MCL tear and test" and find out what you can do to see if you have one. Doctors will manipulate your knee, to see if there is any play in it where there should not be. You can do these on your own, comparing one knee to the other, to see whether you want to go to the doctor. When you have a torn ACL or MCL, the additional movement you get in the bad knee is usually pretty apparent.
But remember, doctors are experienced with these tests. You will not be.
The other thing you might worry about is a torn meniscus. If you have a torn meniscus, usually you will have a little 'click' (a kind of bump or slight catch, with or without sound) when you bend the knee. You will also often have a time or two or more when you will bend your knee and it will get slightly stuck and it will hurt, and you will have to slowly work this "catch" out.
Absent those definite signs, you are pretty safe in assuming that it is unlikely that you have any type of injury that needs serious medical attention. So, you probably just strained, or maybe sprained, your knee, and you are safe with conservative care and waiting.
Sometimes these things seem really serious -- like your knee has become seriously unstable and weak -- but when the swelling goes down, the knee goes right back to normal.
In the meantime, ice is your friend! Use ice, at least once a day, to help the swelling resolve. And, don't do anything that hurts or leaves the knee feeling much more sore and/or swollen afterwards. If the swelling does not go away soon, go back to the doctor.

Just curious if the doc mentioned ITB to you. Outside knee pain is usually that-though swelling is not associated.
Be sure that you stretch religiously after you work out. Here's a link to a four minute leg stretching routine that can save your legs/knees. I speak from experience!
