Re-did my 5k run!

My first 5k I ran without any training, just having done 30 day shred, and finished in 44:37, that was back in April.
I started doing the C25K app right after that race, and trained solely on the treadmill and thought I should try to suck up my insecurities and run outside, it was much more difficult but do-able... I ran 5k in 35:42! Just about 9 min faster and 9 pounds lighter compared to April! I wasn't shaking or dead at the end of the run like the first time, just super beat! I really think running outside was better, time went by faster and I did enjoy the scenery, not as boring as a treadmill!

The treadmill is more of a mental challenge than a physical one. Sure you still get a workout in, but you do hit a point where your mind just can't take it and you need to get off.

It only takes a few runs for outdoors to feel easier. You learn to adjust your pace, instead of having the machine do it for you.

It's hard to know how fast to jog, I feel I don't know my pace because I just set the machine, and outside I'm just guessing! I relied too much on the machine! I understand why it's important to run outside now too!

If you can sing (or better yet, talk to a friend running with you) while you are running you are at the correct pace. How fast or slow is irrelevant. Only things that mater are that you are not breathing heavily and you are enjoying the run.

    Good luck.

Excellent work! As a budding runner myself, I'm very proud of you. I ran regularly years and years ago and got out of the habit. I started about 45 days ago. I've been doing my own private 5k runs and I have participated in one "real one." My first time was 44:27 and now I'm down to 31:11.

Listening to adrenaline laced tunes will help you with your pace. Also, try downloading a jogging app. It will map your jogging trail. You can also change your preferences to have it dictate your duration every quarter mile.
