Hello. I'm 5'6" and started at 270. I am currently down 55 lbs and have been losing about 1-2 lbs/week. I still have a lot of weight to lose, but I am comfortable with my progress. I am crediting my success so far to:
1. Plan, plan, plan. I plan all my meals for the week so that I can prep everything on the weekend and not have to worry about how many calories everything is during the week when my mind is busy with other things. I also know how have alloted to certain meals, so if I need to go out to eat unexpectidely I have a better idea of the range I need to stay in to not mess up the rest of my day.
2. Set small goals. I have set about 45 mini goals from my goal weight to my final weight. Looking at the big picture can be overwhelming, but just trying to get through 5lbs in 3 weeks seems easier.
3. Just moving. I don't always work out everyday, but I always make an effort to move more. I started with just trying to get 5000 steps in a day. I have gradually increased that and find that now I even look forward to long walks in the evening.
I hope these help. The best of luck to you!30 -
I started at 283 but am now down to 266. I'm using 5'4" as my height although with scoliosis I'm measure 5'2." So I may fit your qualifications. I, too, have restarted a b'zillion times but a health scare finally got my attention. Calorie counting works for me, too. Wanna friend? I'm an old buzzard, 66, so that may not fit.15

I am 5'3" and 54 years old and started out at 266, started on April 20th 2017 after having a mini stroke it was my wake up call. Since that time, I do aqua exercises for 1-1.5 hours 3-4 days a week it is the easiest exercise for me to do with a bad knee, although extremely beneficial, I just started doing some at home strength training at home this week and plan on doing it on the days I an unable to go to the pool. My pool routine also has strength training. I started out doing a low cal, low fat 1200 calorie diet and did decent but after a month only saw a 7 pd weight loss. and that was within the first 2 weeks then nothing, then finally a week later I lost three more pounds, so pretty good, but my doctor said something I was eating could make me resistant to losing since I had the stall. I was a TERRIBLE eater before. So I decided to do Atkins Induction and still stay within my 1200 calories for 2 weeks with counting total carbs of max of 20 then the next two weeks of induction but with net carbs, I will be at my month on this Sunday, I have lost 27.4 inches and I am down to 235. and I bought a Yunmai scale that measures my body fat, muscle and weight, as I know some loss will come in inches not weight. I plan on adding back in different carbs as I go each week, and then testing to make sure I am in ketosis if something I eat one day kicks me out, I will know I cannot have that food. In my 54 years this is the longest I have ever made it without cheating on an eating plan (diet) but when death knocked on my door, I actually listened. Good luck to everyone on their journey7

I weighed 270 last summer. I really struggled getting started. I just couldn't get myself to mentally take it seriously. I had only lost about 5 lbs by the new year. In January, I finally flipped that mental switch and that is when I started to seriously lose the weight. Now, I feel like I don't have to mentally work as hard as it is becoming more of a habit.6 -

Not unrealistic at all I'm sure you'll find along the way that you change your goals a little as you start to make progress, good luck to you - and OP!!2 -
I'm 5'4 and started at 268 pounds. I've been maintaining for over three years at 150 pounds.
1. Losing weight is as much a mental challenge as it is a physical. Don't let frustration, hunger or self guilt trips give you an excuse to give up.
2. Losing weight is just simple math. Eat less calories than you burn and you will lose weight. There's a saying that weight loss happens in the kitchen and a toned strong body happens in the gym.
3. Weight loss isn't linear. Some weeks you lose and some you don't.
4. Buy a food scale and weigh your food.
5. Don't be in a hurry. When you have a lot to lose, it takes time.10 -
I am 5'4 and weighed in at 279 lbs. I am determined to lose 100 lbs. - my goal is 3-5 lbs a week. I started in June walking an hour a day, didn't change my diet, lost no lbs. Saturday, I signed up for a weight management program, includes B12 shot weekly and appetite suppressant Phentermine (15mg) . This week I have continued my walking and is trying to stay under 1200 calories a day.2

hello, I too have started many times. I'm 5'3" and weigh 236 pounds. I go to weigh watchers but list my food here so i can see how many calories I'm eating. I'm trying to stay around 1200 calories. I'm shooting to lose a pound to 2 pounds a week. I moved to Myrtle Beach from Massachusetts tying to find things to do. I went home to visit and put a post on Facebook about being home visiting family and friends. A classmate asked when I was coming home again to get together. I have a goal to lose about 25 pounds before I go back. Maybe we can all work together to reach our goals.2

I was about that weight. I stopped weighing myself because I was so upset at what I'd let happen to myself. I'd already lost some weight when I started weighing at 240. Lost ~120 pounds.3

I am 5'3 and 215. This is day two for me. I am looking for people who want to be a part of my village because the one I am actually a part of simply isn't working. Haha.4

Thanks for all the inspiring comments! I must do this for me and my girls.1

Not exactly but I'm 5'6 and 226 now I have only
Lost like1.6 lbs so far. Keep going, it's better than not trying at all.4 -
Gi! I'm 5'4" and currently weigh in at 312.4 lbs. I started my journey May 4th but didn't actually get on the scale until May 18th. At that time my starting weight was 325. I gained three lbs that first week and have been taking it off ever since-until this week. I gained 3lbs, but I'm not letting the scale determine my willingbess to get HEALTHY! I am 36 years old with a full time job and two young children, but I still manage to get in five workouts a week. This week, I decided to reach out here on MFP and try to build some support. Add me and we can do this journey together. Btw, my goal is to just get under 200lbs. I know that may change as I get closer to my "ideal" weight, whatever that means...lol!3

I started at 266 in April 2016. Wow, that number is really hard to type. I set a bunch, and I mean a lot, of interim goals for myself, like down 10 lbs, under X BMI, A1C normal, etc. It is somehow making me feel great to check them off. I use Evernote for all this and it works really well. Just seeing that I have, now, 11 goals "accomplished" keeps me going. It helps to look back over them and see how far I've come. Best of luck to you. I think it helps to be very patient. You'll be surprised at how fast you develop better habits. Just stick with them a few weeks and it will seem like second nature. You'll see yourself in a new way. Somebody recently asked if I wanted a donut and I was shocked to hear this coming out of my mouth: "I don't eat donuts." It's all just part of seeing yourself as a new person.3

Just started at a shade under 5'4" and 254 pounds. I'm committing to moderation because deprivation isn't a positive reality. Between portion control, healthier choices, and moving more, I believe I can do this. I didn't get to this weight quickly, so I'm not expecting to lose it quickly - but who knows?!? I'll be counting calories and following DASH guidelines for health reasons. At 58 years young, It's becoming a now or never thing. Good luck to you and everyone else here. Please feel free to friend me1

I'm a fair bit taller 5'8" but I started at around 256lb, I am now down to 220lb I still have another 35lb to go to my intial target weight, after that I will re-evaluate my goals and may look at re-composition. I have lost my weight at roughly 1lb per week, eating normally and exercising (walking, jogging, strength training).
Your target is far from unrealistic, just remember it's a marathon not a sprint. Log accurately, don't overly restrict yourself and stick at it.0 -
I've started at 260 three times now lol. I hit my lowest of 160 right before I got pregnant with my daughter and here i am again to get it done for good! Add me! My ultimate goal is roughly 130/135 (also 5'4)0
