I would like to read more information on a lectin free/reduced diet and how it effects males with Bill posted blood type.

I tried asking the googlesphere but all I could find were references to the unscientific and wholly debunked "blood type diet." Maybe someone else knows better...

I had to look up lectin as I'd never heard of it. There seem to be a lot of sites offering information on lectin free diets. Many of them claim it helps to heal a leaky gut, which raises my suspicions. I don't know if it's suitable for a blood type diet.

Don't believe the BS with Lectins. It is true that grains and other plant foods do contain Lectins, which have the potential to interfere with the body's ability to absorb minerals, but so does spinach as well as many other leafy greens, which Paleo advocates are strangely fond of.

If nutrient absorption is a concern, you can always soak or sprout any Lectin-containing foods for better nutrient absorption. I would also like to point out that cooking many foods reduces the Lectin content to very small amounts, as is the case with beans.

By the way, the blood type diet has never had even an ounce of scientific evidence to support it. Epigenetics and diet is certainly an interesting field of research, but it's far from complete:

Hey all :) today i saw an episode on Dr Oz with a doctor who was telling us about lectin. Knowing that it is potentially bro-science, i decided to ask you all. Now, after all we hear about plants (veg and fruit) and beans, legumes, etc. now he says an apple will kill you, based on the THEORY that an apple has stuff in it that protects itself by poisoning you (or something like that). so now according to his THEORY, we're not supposed to eat some fruits, veg, beans, nightshade veg like tomatos, legumes. ok he said to eat a tomato you have to slice the skin off and remove the seeds. then he says white bread is better than wheat bread, man, that goes against what people say about whole grains being healthy. Of course Im not going to believe this guy.

We use A1 Lectin in Blood Banking to find out if someone is A1 or A2.:wink:

Anything else is just a fad.
