Over everything - macros, vitamins, fancy suppliments, fad diets, exercise routines - the only thing that matters is creating a caloric deficit. The larger the deficit, the more weight loss that will occur.7

Get your mind right and don't try and go too far too fast. Trying to lead a lifestyle you haven't developed yet is destined to fail. Small steps work wonders! I lost 70 lbs this way without any B.S.!!16

Curiousity. I started out by just wondering what would happen if I did some excercise each day and stopped eating till I hurt.
I also had goals, but it was more like "I wonder if this goal will mess with my head or help keep me dedicated?"
Curiousity about different ways of eating instead of my decade-long dogma that low carb is the only way I can lose weight led me to a more sustainable socially-adaptable way of eating I am enjoying right now.11 -
Don't try and reinvent the wheel. All you are doing is eating less and possibly moving more. Yes, it's harder for some than others but it's still just food and eating. It doesn't have to be a complicated process.5

take baby steps, you will be amazed at how small changes to your lifestyle can make a difference. For me, I cut out fried foods, bought an air-fryer. I also cut back to one diet pepsi a day, with lots of water. Move a little more, eat little less! You can do it!4

Log your food, your weight, and exercise.
All are important to see in writing. Trends start to appear, and there is no arguing with numbers. Having a written record to look back on becomes really important over time. Lack of discipline was always my problem and it's so easy to fall back to previous patterns.4 -
Make changes that you can maintain long term.
As I have learned in the past , short term extreme changes are not maintained, so make the changes that I can commit to long term to be successful and maintain that success.3 -

Once you get a handle on logging your calories accurately and moving more, weight loss isnt that hard. Mentally it can be tough and frustrating sometimes, but its a simple process and before MFP I thought losing weight would be something that was terribly hard and I could never do it. Compared to that, counting calories and moving more is easy.2

Find something you can do for life and stick with it. (Don't crash diet)
Move more. Find something you enjoy.
Log what you eat no matter how bad you were.
Remember your body counts calories perfectly so no matter how you fudge the numbers your body isn't fooled.6 -
Make small changes, one at a time, over time... Don't just think your going to go from McDonald's every day to suddenly being a vegan overnight...
There is a stronger healthier you just out in front, and you have to chase him down if you ever want to become him...
Just the same, there's a weaker, less healthy version of you just behind you... And they're one skipped workout away from catching you...10 -
It is not a race to your goal weight. Slow steady loss is ideal. 1% if your current body weight weekly as a max goal, but 0.5% is a very comfortable rate of loss for me.
Take intentional diet breaks of eating at maintenance - plan them around holidays or celebrations. It won't kill you to take one more week to lose the weight 2-3 times a year. Trust me. The reboot feeling is fantastic.5 -

Lost over 140 lbs. "Consistency is *EVERYTHING*". If you consistently eat well (to lose weight) & exercise (to gain muscle), you WILL see results. It's not a matter of "if", but, rather– "when". Wishing you well!4

It's not gonna happen over night!!
If you have a "good" day on monday, it does not mean you can have a "bad" day on tuesday. Don't undo all your hard work!
Be realistic. Sure, cutting out bread, pasta, processed food etc might seem like the correct approach, but is it really sustainable?
