DO heavy weight with low reps. About 5-6 reps and 4-5 sets on each.
women cannot look like women on steroids unless the TAKE steroids :] You will not get bulky from lifting weights. Women do not have the testosterone to get the build of a man.
Do cardio 3-4 times a week for 30-60 minutes about. And follow however many calories mfp gives you.
good luck!0 -
hey,
General rule of thumb for weights that I use: Less weight and more reps for toning (say feeling it when you hit 12 - 15 reps) heavier weight and less reps for muscle (6-8 8-10 range) per set
Cals and food all depends on what your looking for. Everyone is different and diff things work for all of us. I try to maintain my weight in protein and keep my carbs low, but thats what works for me.
good luck0 -
My trainer started me out with 1 set of 15 reps. Then you do as many reps as possible until you literally cannot anymore (maximum effort)... So, after I get to 30 reps on a weight then I move the weight up. Trainer said that women who just want to tone should just do 1 set of each exercise. He also has me do one day of lower body exercises and the next day is upper body.
I'm sure everyone will have different answers/opinions, I'm just going by what I've been told to do lol.
I usually do the elliptical for 30 mins before strength training and then at least 15 more mins of cardio afterwards as well0 -
Muscles require protein. So eat more meat. I noticed you don’t eat a lot of veggies. It’s not about just being under your calorie goal, you need to nourish your body with lots of meats & veggies to get to where you are going. As a rule, cardio will help you get lean & weight training will help you build muscle. You can start off with waking…., it’s easy, gives you a little cardio & helps tone your body. Hope it helps.0

OK first of all those "girls who look like they are on steroids" spend hours and hours and sweat blood and tears at the gym.
They have total determination and strength. They have made sacrifices that you would never understand and faced insurmountable trials that you will never have to face. Their dedication and will power should be inspirational.
You will never be where they are.
So why don't you keep your goddamn judgments to yourself?0 -

I suggest you find a new trainer because what you describe is wasting your time as far as lifting goes.
If you are doing 30 reps of something it's not doing you any good. Never lift a weight you can do more than 15 times. Ideally, you should do 3-4 sets of 8-12 reps.
If you have not lifted before it may be a good idea to do just one set the first time out so you do get DOMS too bad, but you should do 3-4 reps after that.0 -

I lifted before back when I was in shape should I start out with set?0 -
