Yes you can wear it in water.. just don't push the watch buttons under water.

Make sure to wash the strap in the washing machine after every dip in the pool.

Wore mine in the water. I made sure to not push any buttons while in the water or after to make sure it was dry...BUT...I found it didn't work while swimming. It didn't pick up my heart rate at all :-( I've heard the same from others. Give it a try, maybe it will work for you.

It's the next model up, but I swim with my ft7 all the time. No problems, just remember that they warn you not to press buttons under water. I have forgotten a few times and it hasn't blown out on me yet. The housings are most likely the same.

Great to know from someone who has tested this out. I have the FT7 model. Thanks!

Try tightening the chest strap. Too much water between your skin and the sensor contacts can cause problems.

I have an FT7. I've always been too scred to try it in the water. Next time I'm turning laps I'll try it.

I'm hoping I'm not disapointed or pleasently suprised.

I just wore mine in the pool this afternoon with my kids for about an hour. No problems. I did push buttons, but not underwater, no problems there! I did find that my HR was WAY lower with my HRM than what MFP says!

I swam with the FT7 for a few minutes this afternoon. I was too busy watching kids to get in a full work out. But, based on the ten minutes a did swim laps I was only over estimating my swim calories by 10-20 calories a session.

Only problem I had was the strap getting displaced when I kicked off the wall.

Anxious to see what happens when I can get in a full work out.
