So I have put in my current weight 9st 3 and set my goal to loose 2lbs a week. I have been eating the recommended calories ect but when I complete my diary it says 'If you ate like this everyday you would weight 9st 1 or 9st2 in 5 weeks' that doesn't seem like 2lbs a week? Any ideas on why it's doing this? :/ thanks :)

That's likely because you are already fairly thin. It will not set your calories below 1200, but how much weight are you trying to lose?

Your goal is too aggressive, set your goal to the lowest setting (is it .25kg per week? I'm not on metric...)

Cutting your calories too much will result in fatigue, irritability, weakness, hair loss, brittle nails, over-sleeping, inability to concentrate, muscle loss (your heart is a muscle) etc.

The lowest calorie goal MFP will give a woman is 1200 calories - nutritional minimums.

2 pounds a week is a 1,000 calorie deficit everyday. If your maintenance calories (TDEE) are not something above 1,000+1,200 or 2,200 calories....then 2 pounds a week is not going to happen (in a healthy manner). This is why 2 pounds a week is more appropriate for people with 75+ pounds to lose.

You don't need to lose 2lb per week! At this weight we're looking at vanity pounds right? So your body doesn't want to lose them like if you're heavy. I'm 9st1 and have lost 2lb in the past 4 weeks (and I'm super happy with that)

The minimum MFP will ever recommend is 1200. If, at your weight, to lose 2lbs a week you need to eat, say 500cals a day, mfp will set you to 1200 regardless.

The 2lbs a week rate is only for morbidly obese people. At your weight you have to go for 0.5lbs per week (like it or not).

To lose 2lbs per week you need to make 1000cals deficit per day. If your TDEE is around 1700, you can see why such a deficit is impossible.
0.5lbs loss per week is 250cal deficit per day. So if your TDEE is 1700 then you can lose that if you eat 1450cal a day.

How tall are you? I'm 5'7 and for me your weight is almost the bottom of the healthy range. How much do you want to lose?

Thanks for the advice! I'm only 5ft1 so a couple of pounds makes a big difference to how I look/feel.
Do you think I should stick to the 1200 goal then? X

I would eat 1200 plus any calories that I burn as exercise.

1200 plus your exercise calories (you need them to keep your energy levels up) should have you losing between .5 and 1 lbs a week given your height and weight.

Make sure you use a digital kitchen scale to weigh all foods.

I went from 130lbs to a maintenance of 100-105 at 5'1 eating 1200 plus all my exercise calories (exercise cals were generally around 200 per hr). It was slow towards the end because the difference between my maintenance calories and deficit calories was so small.

    Cheers, h.

The rule of thumb is strive for a loss of 1% of your body weight per week, MAX.
