How many calories should I be looking to lose each day through exercise? I'm hoping to lose between 1/2lb and 1lb a week and plan on going for walks 5 times a week (and resting on weekends).

    You should burn 500-700cals/ day

    A pound of body fat equates to approximately 3500 calories. So if you have a calorie deficit of 500 calories (meaning that you burn 500 calories more than you eat each day) you would lose approximately one pound per week.

    Think I'll stick to losing half a pound a week. Its far more doable for me to burn 250-300 calories a day than twice that to be honest.
