Starting a Ketogenic Diet

Hiii. So, I'm 19, I work at a group training gym, and I'm starting a ketogenic diet because I want to challenge my body to burn fats instead of carbohydrates. I didn't realize this until I started, but *apparently* I'm a carboholic with a low fat diet. On that note, does anyone have any tips for starting out (ratios)?. My boss recommended that I buy keto strips. I'm really not looking forward to the keto flu, let me tell ya.

Hello @ripleyricketts. My ratios are 70-80% fats, 20-25% protein and 5% carbs. I do cap my protein at about 1g/lb of lean mass and my carbs 30g. It all depends on how active I am that day. More activity = more protein. The biggest thing for me is staying hydrated i have at least 100 oz of water a day. As long as you keep your sodium intake up along with some potassium and magnesium in your diet you should be golden.
Hope this helps for you0 -
Hiii, ive been on keto for 2 months now. Try the ketogains calculator for your macros.0

Also keto strips are worthless...they only show you what your body is not using! When you are in ketosis, your strips shouldnt show ketones. Supplement with sodium, magnesium, and potassium and keto flu shouldnt be an issue.0

Does Keto work? I would feel guilty eating all those fats. I am not very active0

Fats don't really equate to "fat" on your body. Fats can actually make you feel fuller, longer. Carbs are complex sugars that can cause a myriad of health issues, especially combined with a high sugar diet. I don't personally do Keto, but I do strive to maintain with a lower carb diet. It's mostly a byproduct of carbs being huge calorie sinks that don't keep me full.
My best friend has been doing keto off and on again for a couple years. when he's on it, he can drop substantial weight and buff up in a short time. It's kept him from ballooning up with the way he eats now a days.0 -

fat doesnt make you fat, too many calories do and with keto your body burns the dietary fat as a fuel source instead of carbs that are turned into glucose.body fat is lost in a caloric deficit no matter how you eat.0 -

carbs are fruits and vegetables as well as grains. so how are those going to cause health issues? I cant do keto due to a health issue. I do high carb low fat and lost a lot of weight and improved my health markers.0
