Shooting pain in legs

I've had to cut way back on my exercise. I love to ride my bicycle and work out on an elliptical. I've been getting shooting pains in my legs. I've been told by others that I am over exercising.
Is an hour a day too much?

    An hour doesnt seem like its too much for shooting pain hmmmmm do you have any varicose veins?

    I don't think "an hour" is enough info to say whether it's too much or not. You could be riding like the fires of hell are at your heels for an hour or toodling along easy peasy during that hour. There's clearly something that's not going right for your body. Is this a brand new problem? How long have you been exercising? Have you started doing anything new or changed your diet recently?

    See your doctor, especially if you have been exercising and this is new. Shooting pain is bad. Just sayin'. Hope you recover quickly!

    Well if you're getting shooting pains, that means your body is telling you what you're doing is damaging something. Get it assessed by an ortho.

    You need to see a doctor. Don't ask anybody on this website for a diagnosis of what they think your condition Maybe.

    I do mostly cardio exercise. I usually lift light weights with high reps. I do body weight exercises. I love to bicycle and use the elliptical. I usually do 2 - 30 minute sessions a day. 30 min in the morning and a 30 minute in the afternoon.
    The leg pain started several months ago. At first tylenol would take care of it, but now it is getting worse.
    I love my exercise time and would not want to give any of it up. It has helped me to maintain my weight for a couple years now after loosing 100 pounds.
    I just cant believe that 60 mins a day of cardio can be considered excessive exercise?

    You are assuming it's the amount of time you are exercising but it could be something else. See a doctor. It's been months already.

    It's not a matter how long you exercise or engage in physical activity.

    You can injure yourself in an instant and, if it has been months since the pain started and hasn't gone away yet, it's obviously something that your body has been unable to repair by itself.

    Just make an appt to see a doctor qualified to assess your injury. If you belong to an HMO, make an appt w/your PCP so that s/he can refer you to a qualified specialist.

    Get going!

    Is it both legs or just one side? Sciatica usually is on one side and feels like you've been bitten or kicked in the lower butt cheek and radiates down the thigh.

    Definitely make an appointment to see a dr. 60 min/ day isn't excessive at all.

    I'd get a doctor to look at it in case it's something like sciatica.

    Do see your Doctor. I had terrible pain shooting down my left leg for months and thought it was just from over use. I'm in my late 50's so arthritis was not out of the question. When I saw the doctor, he ran blood tests and discovered I was extremely Vitamin D deficient. That was the telling flag for him but he ran the blood tests just to be sure. It took 7 months of taking 50,000 IU of Vitamin D once a week but it worked. No more pain in my legs and now I know how to keep from having this issue again. You won't know what's wrong or how to fix it if you don't see a professional.
