Worried about the effects of immobility on my progress

Hi all,
Just wondered if anyone has any experience of a broken 5th metatarsal on the foot. I'm currently a week in since I slipped on a step. I am now forced to rest while it heals, which it seems can be anything from 4 to 12 weeks. I have a dura boot and crutches for mobility but can't weight bear at all. I'm only 6 pounds from my goal weight and the boredom is affecting my willpower for my diet and with the lack of exercise I'm really worried about my progress being seriously hampered. Does anyone have any knowledge of this condition, medical people are very vague about recovery. Thanks for listening.

I broke both ankles. Word of wise.. stay off it and rest because if you don't (like I didn't) it will be far far far worse. And possibly not heal right.4

Go to youtube for sitting exercise routines. There are lots of them for seniors which you can adapt for yourself. You can just search things like "chair tai chi, "chair pilates," etc.2

Thank you for replying, I suppose I was hoping someone had recovered really quickly. I know I have to rest, just finding it really difficult as I'm usually really active. I will have a look at chair exercises Heidi0

It took me a year to run after I broke my ankle. I started weight bearing 9 weeks after I broke it. I started with crutches, then a cane and then walking with just the boot and then nothing. I limped for months and was in PT for a year.
Totally different injury, but it takes time.0 -
Well, 7 weeks now since my injury, I've put on 2 pounds which could be worse, I had an X-ray at five and a half weeks and the darn thing was still broken. My calories have gone to pot through boredom and husbands cooking. I've got to try and walk on it in the next 3 weeks to aid healing apparently, then if it hasn't healed it will be pinned. I am thoroughly fed up and can't wait to get back to fitness and normality and driving and a clean tidy house, the list is endless. At least it will heal eventually, so many people are in worse situations. I just have to be patient. My goal weight will come one day. I hope!!!0

Medical personnel are vague because it can be different for everyone. Dont use up the injury as an excuse to overeat and regain. Find a good book or something else to do!0

Chair exercises, Pilates (maybe?), Upper body weight machines or bands, knee push ups, pullups, ab work...0

Alright I'm going to be blunt but this is a reality check. Please do not ask anybody on this website 4 their opinion period without knowing your specific condition they may be doing more damage than good even though they believe they're trying to help you.
Sometimes doctors can't give you an answer cuz everybody recovers easily. I'm 57 years old 2 years ago I had a double hip replacement. Would in two weeks I was walking up and down the stairs and about six weeks after my surgery I saw one of the physical therapist who treated me and he couldn't believe it was me cuz he never saw anybody recover that fast. Everybody reacts differently to medical.
Talk to your doctor and physical therapist as far as what you can and can't do losing a couple weeks of progress is better than doing something stupid and losing a couple months of progress Andrey injuring yourself. Remember this is a lifelong journey not some quick couple weeks print focus on the long-term not on the short-term. Good luck and don't get frustrated getting healthy is your most important thing at this point0 -

Exactly this. I ran across this YouTube video recently and realized he blows a lot of excuses out of the water with workouts like this one.
