I'm retired at 56 so it's tough filling my days up as it is , in a new town where all my friends & family can't wait until happy hour to start their social time . I need a night job! Or maybe some demanding class to do at night . Thank You again for your inspiration , I'm going to try to make 8:8 day 1 !
You got this! Don't give up!2 -
Yes! I'm definitely in! I'm on day 3 with no alcohol so far. I could definitely use support in sharing the same goal to keep it cut out and reach my weight loss goals!1

Don't give up! Keep taking it one day at a time. Awareness and willingness to make a change and/or make good choices is HUGE. Being awake is half the battle! Everyone is welcome here regardless of where they are at in their journey each day and this entire month. We all have our individual battles we are fighting. We each have to fight the battle each day. But the point of this thread is so you can get inspiration from others and support.3 -
I gave up alcohol for Lent in February. It has been good for my budget, but can't say I look or feel better. I was really hoping my face would be less puffy but apparently age is the issue, not booze. It can't hurt not to drink however.3

Does anyone have recommendations on what to drink if not alcohol at a party? We are very social and if I don't have a glass in my hand everyone thinks there is something wrong. I am also trying to do no alcohol in August. Thinking seltzer water or Kombucha to "mimic" a cocktail.
My sister has a trick. She orders white wine and separate sparkling water. Secretly orders 2 glasses and fills one . The wine one she leaves on a table. When shots are ordered she always accepts and silly as it sounds , when people down their shots she throws hers over her shoulder. I have never tried but she has super fast reflexes and no one ever notices ...lol... as you can imagine she is amazing at networking on a drinks work night .....once people have 1 or 2 in them they stop noticing
That seems really expensive. Is it so weird not drinking? There are so many alcoholics it seems odd to disapprove of a non-drinker.1 -
Well yesterday we turned this party ship of my dad visiting around . Instead of visiting we planted in my garden & cleaned the garage . No wine ! It was 8 pm & I was still going strong out there. Didn't even miss it ! You all were the key inspiration to my Day 17

Will you count me in on 8/9? I'm a little worried about the weekend of the 19th because we will be camping for the eclipse...but I want to at least keep my low carb beer to the weekends now.1

Hi All! Staying strong here. I did not stay under my losing weight calories today but I didn't go over my maintenance calories, if that makes any sense. I almost went to that place - I'm already over, maybe I should have a glass of wine but I was able to stop that thought and am drinking my sparkling water now and watching tv.2

Way to stay strong! I know that feeling too well.1 -
Day 9 for me. Counting the days may have value for some, but not necessarily for all. Different people might benefit from a different approach.1

Still alcohol free, been drinking more water, not snacking at night either, so it's a win win.2

I get this. I've been following this thread and am becoming more and more motivated to join the challenge. I'm 67 and live in a retirement community where many of the other seniors gather every day for happy hour(s). Being seniors, the happy hour(s) are early bird hours, starting early. I've started to cut back, but I need to eliminate either all of it or try to stick to one or two drinks.3 -

I've also failed, but I too, find a lot of inspiration in reading everyone's comments. No wine for me yesterday, and I'll go for day 2 today. Interesting comments about boredom. I think there may be something in it in my case too even though I work but I'm winding it down. I used to take classes throughout my life, and have other hobbies. Maybe I should take up some interesting courses again. Day 2 for me today!

I am going out for lunch today with a friend where I would normally have wine. However, she knows I am not drinking this month so that will make it easier. I will be over my calories today, but no wine so that's a win. People seem to be okay with it.
I have one friend get a little weird about finding out I wasn't drinking this month, but that's it. And honestly, I think that's more about her and not about me. She wants me to still be her drinking buddy, and is worried I might not be any more.
I have been thinking about finding some new hobbies as well.
Cutting back on wine has helped my checking account over the past few weeks, and also given me more time to concentrate on upping my workouts. I have also been under a great deal of stress. We ALL have stress, but stress is an ever-present companion in my life. But it feels so good to NOT be self-medicating the stress away, and getting myself out of the guilt cycle. While wine may numb things temporarily, it really doesn't help me deal any better.
Thanks to everyone for being apart of this thread. It's encouraging and inspiring to watch everyone and hear everyone's stories.
I won't say that I'm not still tempted, but deciding to NOT drink every day gets a little easier each and every day. For those of you who are struggling, hang in there. I truly do believe that awareness is the first step and small changes add up to big changes. It may sound cliche, but it's true.

Great job everyone! Whether this is your first, second or tenth day, you've come here to make a change. That is the first step. Sending strength to all of you!1

I'm not around a lot of drinkers, fortunately, but when I am, once they've had two drinks I'm "safe". I sat across from a friend for her husband's birthday and she kept offering me red wine. I kept holding up my club soda and lime and told her I was "all set" and she was happy.2

Well, I'm not pregnant and don't have a medical reason to abstain, so that's a no for me.3

Hi everyone, I just came across this post and I have to say that I have been alcohol free since November 3, 2016. I used to drink most nights and never thought it'd be possible to quit. Add me! I'd be more than happy to have more friends and help motivate others (:5

Im taking August off booze! I don't normally drink all that often but I got sick before I went home and then while I was at home on vacation I drunk pretty much every day! Nice to have a break for my body and it makes it so much easier to hit the gym when I don't wake up hungover or even dehydrated2

Hope this challenge is renewed for Sept! I'll definitely want to join you all & will be ready to start fresh on 9/1.6

If the situation in North Korea goes nuclear, this thread is mute.2

This will be the first month I've been sober for like 2 years, so count me in!6
-
I'm late to the party, but want to join! I have actually been contemplating going sober because I am applying to grad school and feel like I will be better at my profession if I stop drinking completely. I can at least commit to doing it for 30 days, then. And, I happen to be 4 days in already! I am inspired by everyone's positivity here.5

Failed last night but started again with a 100 day challenge today. Annoyed with myself but onwards and upwards.4

You didn't FAIL. Just a bump in the road! You got this!2 -
We are 1/3 of the way through the month as of today. How is everyone doing?1
-
I am definitely in! Wine is also my downfall, especially when Friday afternoon hits. I can be great all week, and as soon as the weekend comes along it's hard to resist the urge to relax, have a few glasses and then your eating habits go out the window1
-
I drank last weekend and it really contributed to the extra weight I held onto early this week. My husband will be at military training this weekend, so I'm hoping I can skim the surface and get away with not drinking!1
