Last week I lost 2 pounds which is a total of 14 pounds lost since I started back using this app. I weighed this morning and I gained back the 2 pounds I lost last week. I'm not cheating on my diet I'm always under my calorie goal. When I started losing weight I started at 290 now I'm 204 and was 202 last week. I'm freaking out. I don't want to gain weight I need the scale to go down not up.

Normal bodily fluctuations....water retention, poop, hormones.7

Have you ever heard someone say "weight loss isn't linear?" It means that our weights fluctuate all the time, and that we almost never see consistent, regular losses. As you lose weight, you'll have some low weigh-ins and you'll gain weight from time to time. The only thing that matters is that your trend line, over time, goes down. Be patient, keep to your plan, and try not to panic when you see bumps on the scale.5

I lost 2 pounds last week and gained 1 back last night. Water weight? Who knows. Frustrating but it will happen many more times to you on this journey.1

It really aggravates me. I don't eat junk, sweets or any treats anymore. Went to the grocery store yesterday and saw individual fresh baked cookies and wanted one but I was good and refused to buy it because it's on the bad food do not eat can't have list. I'm just so frustrated. Trying to scan the barcode off a can of chicken noodle soup for dinner tonight and it wouldn't scan I was ready to just scream.2

It's really not related to the foods you eat; it's just a consequence of having a human body. Literally everyone fluctuates in weight, all day, every day.
Here's an example from my life: I ran around Disneyland for 15 hours a month ago. It was hot, so we were drinking a ton of water and eating more sodium than I otherwise would. The increased activity + the sodium + the water = water retention, which showed up as a couple pounds on the scale overnight. I didn't gain 2 pounds of fat overnight; that gain was expected, and it went away after a few days of me being back to my normal routine.
Here's another example: I'm up 0.4 pounds since yesterday. I didn't gain 0.4 pounds of fat in 24 hours; maybe I'm retaining a little bit of water, or there's extra food weight still processing in my system, or who knows. That's also totally normal for me.6 -
Hi I am same boat as I Wt my self daily as I want to know if Iam gaining or loosing I get very up set if scales go up. As gross it sounds to day I Wt my self I was 142.4 . Went for 4 mile run, umm when I run I always kinda making couple stops if u know what I mean as running really stimulates peristalsis move to in your colon needless to say I Wt my self again got I was 140.4 pds I haven't been this Wt I I very 13 ys so before u get up set think did I go bathroom today. I find using food diary really helps me know how much calories I putting in. I started this journey with my co workers needless say they all dropped out I am only one still logging in my intake being active it bit discouraged as my co workers all stop .. Denise0

Ok stop. Take a breath. You good?
Now ask yourself "did I eat 7000 calories over maintenance in the last week?" That's 1000 calories over per day.
I'm confident you did not.
Now chill and continue on with your plan.2 -

First, cookies are not "bad". You can fit one into your calories if you'd like.
Second, there are a number of reasons you could have gained weight. Did you have an excess amount of sodium or carbs in recent days? Did you increase your workout load? Are you at or near TOM/ovulation? I'm surprised you lost close to 90 pounds and never saw the scale go up. It happens to everyone.5 -
If I don't lose weight then I'll stay the same and that is also frustrating staying the same but to gain is even worse to me. I'm very cautious on the amount of calories I eat. I'm allowed to eat 1,560 calories according to the app but I never eat more that 1,200 to 1,300. Today I only ate
1, 010 to attempt to correct if I ate something I shouldn't have yesterday. I'm just so frustrated with this damn weight.4 -

You are not listening to people. First try to stop thinking in terms of weight gain or loss. You are not trying to simply lose weight, you are trying to lose fat. Weight changes come from a whole host of things like water retention, food digesting, and more. The thing is, those weight changes are not fat. YOU DID NOT PUT ON TWO POUNDS OF FAT. You put on weight that is likely water weight and will come off again. One week of going up doesn't mean anything in terms of fat gain if you have stuck to your calorie goal. Lighten up on yourself, and realize that weigh does not come off in a straight line, you will have weeks you lose, weeks you gain, weeks you stay the same, BUT it you are within your calorie goal measuring your food carefully, even if weight goes up temporarily, it is highly likely your fat has still gone down.
Also, stop categorizing food as good or bad. There is nothing inherently bad about a cookie, as long as you measure your serving size carefully, log it, and stay within your calories. Your current attitude toward food is making your miserable, and will likely cause you to give up in frustration both because you have categorized foods you like as bad and because your expectations for weight loss being continuous as an indication that fat loss is happening. Re-read what others have posted here, slowly and carefully making sure you are hearing what they are saying in their posts not what you think they are saying.9 -
If you really have lost as much weight as you say you have, you should be well versed in weight fluctuations. This doesn't add up.0

I have access to a scale on a daily basis now which I didn't used to. Then I would weigh myself once a week or once every 2 week now sometimes I weigh daily or every other day. So I guess I wasn't seeing a gain because of that. Maybe I should weigh myself less. I've finally able to fit in a size large 14/16 pants which I haven't been able to wear in 16 years. Was up to a size 22 and just don't want to go back to that.0

If you are going to freak out about normal weight fluctuations which can be as much as 4 or more pounds, yes, weight a lot less.0 -

sounds like a sad little set up if you ask me... one cookie wont make you fat, just like one salad wont make you thin.6 -
I weigh daily and day before yesterday I lost three pounds. Yesterday I gained a pound. If I am having too much fun on a weekend it is not difficult to gain seven pounds. Bottom line is if you are in deficit you will lose weight so don't sweat the minor gains. My record loss is 4 pounds in a day and my record gain was a three day weekend in Chicago totaling 10 pounds. My scale is a FitBit Aria WiFi and when I got back to weigh it said "welcome guest"3

So glad I don't have one of these

As everyone has said, it really is just something that happens. Yesterday, I lifted (leg day), completed W9D2 of Couch to 5k (which means I walked/ran for 54 minutes), and then I was on my bike for 24 miles (2ish hours) last evening. With all of that, I logged 22,990 steps on my fitbit. I got up this morning and gained 2 pounds from yesterday. I certainly didn't actually gain weight yesterday... but it happens.1

It's not related to the foods you're eating...body weight fluctuates naturally. Losing weight isn't a linear function...you will not lose weight consistently every week...sometimes you will have smaller losses, sometimes bigger losses, sometimes no losses, and sometimes small gains...you need to look at the trend, not the week to week.
I'm in maintenance, with my average weight being about 182...but on Monday I was 184...on Wednesday I was 181...today I'm 181.7...body weight isn't static, you don't have a specific weight...your body weight is a range of numbers.2 -
I have a list too:
- Liver (seriously wtf)
...and that's it.

I'm glad I read this. I started some weight training a few days ago and gained some water weight. Today, though I was under goal again, my sodium was way over. Because of more weight training today and the excess sodium, I'm expecting another gain tomorrow.1
