does subway fit into your calories and macros?
if one of those meals was salad to get some veg in, then possibly... i think you would get bored pretty quick though.4 -
Depends. Are you hitting your nutritional goals? Do you like eating this way?4
-
Yes it does fit into my calorie account. For example
i) Seafood sensation 410cal ,
ii) Subway cookie 2 piece 440cal
iii) Iced lemon tea with zero sugar 0cal
I usually have Teriyaki Chicken which caused me 320calories with either Honey & Oats or Parmesan bread .
The problem is I am trying to eat natural for body digestion. I did a research when a guy tried on Subway diet for a week and it doesnt work on him with the argument that the meat used are processed meat.

If by "work" you mean won't allow weight loss, that's bunk. I'd like to see this guy's evidence.
If you are concerned for health about eating too much processed meat, that's a legitimate concern, and I don't know enough about Subway (haven't been there for years, so haven't checked) to say what their meats are.
850 calories with over half of it being cookies seems like a lot if you are eating there twice a day, that would be more my thought, but obviously the nutritional value and calories depends on what you choose, your goal, what else you eat. You can certainly lose weight doing it, I think it would get super boring and you could eat healthier doing other things, but can you get an adequately healthful diet doing that? Depends what you choose and what the options are.4 -

You have fallen into a trap. Reseach isn't reading women's magazines and watching shockumentaries.
How would you define "natural" food? Is everything that is "natural", healthy?
All the foods we eat, are processed in some way. That doesn't make it unhealthy.
Our bodies digest all the foods we eat just fine. There are exceptions, based on individual circumstances. They would have been pointed out by your doctor.
To eat healthfully, we need a certain amount of nutrients every day, and over time, not eat too much of anything. All food provide nutrients, in different amounts and proportions. A healthy diet can be made up in an infinite number of ways. But a healthy diet is just part of eating healthily - you also need a healthy attitude towards food and eating. Taking care to eat properly is not the same as obsessing over your food. A relaxed attitude is in the same as not giving a damn.9 -
Is eating a turkiye slice which is processed meat that caused you 100calories are better than eating a fresh turkiye breast which is 300calories ?

Well usually I will ditch the cookies and just had the subway itself and some plain water. If I workout that day and have excess calories then I will get the cookies. Yes , they are high calories cookies .1

I don't know anything about Subway's meat -- you should research and decide for yourself (avoid terrible sites like Food Babe). Subway should provide information about the ingredients/nutrients in their stuff.
Roasted turkey breast can be 100 calories or 300 calories (or more or less), depends on how much you eat and if you add fat.
For weight loss, calories matter, period.
For health, what you eat overall matters, getting in adequate nutrients, as another poster explained above. The deal with deli meats tends to be nitrites and sodium, which on the whole I don't worry about, but I'd pay a lot more attention if eating something twice a day vs. occasionally. But if someone tells you it matters for weight loss, it's bunk and I'd be suspicious of anything else they say.5 -
Weight loss and health are two different things. This Subway diet would work for weight loss like any other diet if it fits your allotted calories and it's sustainable for you. I wouldn't do it because I couldn't and wouldn't want to eat like that forever, which would mean I'd have trouble maintaining afterward. Also, I do believe your nutrition would lacking if that's all you ate, which matters for long-term health.
As for your turkey question: Your question is flawed. Compare 100 cal of cured deli turkey with an equal 100 cal of fresh turkey. For weight loss, they are the same. For long-term health, that's a different issue.

Depends on if you're watching sodium or not. The processed turkey slices have about 600mg sodium per serving, while the fresh turkey breast has none.1 -
You seem to be looking for very concrete black and white answers about whether something is "healthy" or not. Any food can be healthy in the context of an overall balanced diet. You should be looking not at one food, or one meal, but at your diet overall to determine if it is healthy.
In my opinion a healthy diet is one that is at an appropriate amount of calories for the individual's goals, includes macro and micronutrients, and is varied and enjoyable to ensure long term adherence.
Processed turkey can be healthy.
Subway can be healthy.
Eating Subway twice a day sounds like it would be challenging to get nutrients and get boring.
Don't fall into traps of labeling foods and assuming that natural = good and processed = bad. If you have a medical condition that needs dietary adjustments, then you should be working with your doctor to make those adjustments.
Good luck.6 -

Meh,I've banned Subway..tasteless food anyways very bland, skip the sandwich and just eat the cookies they're the only thing that have any flavor there2

All deli meat is high in sodium so if sodium is an issue subway is not for you. I worked at Subway for three years and the link you shared there is no slime on the deli meat that slides off, and the cheese is american cheese but I would say higher quality then Kraft. The tuna and the seafood watch out for those it depends on who is making them and how much mayo they use in it (I used a lot).
It is all common since really bread, sauces, cheese, chips, cookies and a soda high calorie things.
You can get a Turkey sandwich on wheat bread about 280 cal w/ out cheese and mayo, but you can load up on veggies to make it more filling.
You can fit it into your calorie allotment for the day and lose weight just like anything else.4 -
It's fine. Just count calories, but realize that some of the pre posted calories counts can be under estimated. Oh and don't believe anything Jared says.

I used to work for them when I was in my late teens and in theory yes you can eat subway twice a day and lose weight but it's usually what I would consider a really boring sandwich or salad without cheese or dressings, and the calorie count relies on the person serving you following the amount of food they are supposed to put in a sandwich. They usually don't as they usually dump in more of all the salad bits, some of which add up the calories.
I would think you would get bored before losing any significant amount of weight but there are a handful of people who seem to like subway enough to do it. Allegedly.0 -
With apologies, I'd suggest to stop looking for magical answers and observe the science of weight loss. The Subway diet could provide you 3 meals a day at 500 calories per. You'd lose weight quickly and probably feel fine. There's protein, carbs and fat there. Everything your body needs to survive, assuming you don't have any rare health issues.
As an aside, I would suggest 440 calories of tuna or another 6 inch in place of the cookie nom. The former will keep you feeling full much longer than the latter and that's a key to weight loss IMO.5 -
Yes it is in theory fine but why would you do that to yourself. It seems expensive to eat out all the time as well as boring
There is so much more variety and delicious food. I would get bored eating anything all the time. Also I don't like sandwiches that much. So why not go with subway occasionally like 2 times a week but other foods too and thus get a better dietary mix.2 -
Do you mean you'd only eat 2 Subway subs and nothing else? You could lose weight that way if you are in a calories deficit but if you stick to only subs and cookies your diet isn't going to be very balanced or contain many vegetable servings. Why not throw in a salad now and then?1
-

Losing weight is calories in vs. calories out. I could lose weight on twinkies and kool-aid if the calories were less than my body burned in a day.
However, HEALTH is another matter. Losing weight in a healthy way helps you lose mostly fat. Losing weight in a healthy way helps you get vital nutrients. Losing weight in a healthy way helps you stay full and keeps you on course.
440 calories in cookies wouldn't be filling for me (protein, fiber & fat does that). 440 calories in cookies wouldn't help me keep more lean muscle, while losing fat (protein does that). Food choices matter.....but it has nothing to do with processed.
2 sandwiches or, 1 sandwich and 1 salad would be better nutrition than a lunch of cookies.2 -
You guys are waaay understanding the health risks of Subway. It's proven that eating Subway twice a day will cause you to seek out inappropriate sexual relationships with underage members of the opposite sex.8

They have salads too. They are basically the sub ingredients with no bread chopped up in a bowl, but still.1 -

No I meant eating Subway for lunch and dinner only . Ill usually have oats for breakfast. [While everything under calorie intake]

I love Subway, having said that you may, or may not, want to watch the amount of sodium you're getting in those sandwiches. One of the subs I like to order has at least 2500 grams of sodium in it. So it's basically more than the total daily recommended amount of sodium in one sandwich. That's how they (and any pre-packaged meat/food by the way) fresh, it's chocked full of sodium. Having said that, I drink a ton of water and really don't mind going over on my sodium since I no longer have high blood pressure issues after losing weight. But.. it may not be healthy to hit 6k in sodium a day on a regular basis. Just sayin.0

Are you doing this because you really like Subway? Why only Subway? Why not incorporate other foods into this plan?3 -
I work at subway and eat it every single day. You can totally be healthy eating there! Every sandwich is what you make it. A choice can be really bad, or really good. I've seen sandwiches with double meat, extra cheese and a million sauces, and i've seen sandwiches with rotissere chicken, no cheese, and plenty of veggies with a little honey mustard. Some customers even have us hollow out the bread to save a few carbs + cals (it saves about 70). We also offer any sub as a salad, which can make nearly any sub low cal. The salads can be as big as you want, just keep asking for more of a certain veggie. Get dressing on the side, or just a drizzle on top.
I even fit subway cookies into my day sometimes. They are around 200 calories each. I most often eat a subway seafood sensation as a salad (240 calories) and a double chocolate chip cookie. (200 calories) for a lunch totalling 440 cals. Or, if i need to save calories, I get apple slices with my salad.
Subway employees are instructed to follow a strict formula for meats and cheeses, so those calories are very accurate. Veggies have a formula as well but customers are welcome to ask for more or less of anything, which can verrry slightly effect the calories overall. (not worth stressing over imo). Subway employees are also supposed to only put three 'passes' of sauce on a sandwich.
TL;DR?
Subway is what you make it. The extensive menu as well as salads and sides make for the ability to have a varied diet with plenty of veggies (and even apples!) As long as you eat under your daily calorie expenditure you'll lose weight!2 -

But why would you do that?

If fast food is my only option, I choose subway and get a 12" veggie delite on whole grain flatbread, no cheese and light mustard. It's 550 cals.0
