Birth Control and Bloating

Has anyone noticed (well, girls...) that when you forget a few birth control pills -- like 2 or so in a row -- you start to bloat/gain weight? Maybe even PMS early (which means bloating, weight gain)?

I am 95% sure I've done this to myself twice. Awful memory. Alarm is now on cell phone.

FWIW I have been on bc for years, way before I started losing all this weight, but lately my memory is shot because of how busy I have been.

Please don't tell me the pill makes me gain weight. It's simply not true and I'm posting here because everyone on MFP is generally totally smart and knowledgeable and knows it's not true anyway.

I can't fully answer that as every birth control pill is different.
The pill I take called natazia causes bloating all month tho, I've never forgotten to take my pill(alarm set on my phone) so I can't answer that either.
Hopefully you'll find the answer you're looking for. And fyi yes certain pills cause weight gain/ or loss. Some cause acne, other clear it up. If you still have the insert for the b.c read that or go to fda.gov and look up the pill. You can also report the bloating as a side effect if it isn't listed. Hope that helps some!

The pill doesn't make you gain weight but you have to find one that is right for you. I've been on some kinds that have bloated me, one that made me puke for a week, and others that just made me feel weird. I spoke to a friend about it and she was like - don't suffer with a pill that makes you feel gross! I think a lot of women just resign themselves to the fact that if on bc they'll be bloated and feel icky forever. Go to your doc if you're not happy with the one you're on and ask for another. Seriously, there are SO many different kinds of pills out there that I didn't even know existed. I got a recommendation from my friend about a pill called Femodene and I am really happy with it (though everyone's different and just because a friend likes one pill doesn't mean it will be the right one for you) and I lost weight while on it too. Don't be afraid to ask your doc about other options and well done on the phone alarm :)

My question is, has anyone experienced bloating when they MISSED a few/one pills.

Well last night I had to take two at once because was worried the pill I took the night before was not absorbed (only a few hours after taking it I started throwing up from some dodgy food...). So far today I don't feel bloated at all. But this is literally the first time I've had to take two pills at once and I can imagine bloating may happen if you're doing that regularly. I think now that you have the reminder on your phone set, see how a few weeks taking pills at regular times affects your bloating. If it goes down, you know it was the pill, if not, maybe modify what you're eating. A few weeks ago I was disgusted with my bloated belly. I did a few days of lowering my carb intake (not cutting them out totally) and my stomach felt A LOT flatter. HTH
  • This is happening to me right now, and I found this thread because I was searching for answers! Hopefully I can help you find some as well. Last spring I had to go off the pill for one month for medical reasons. The month sans-pill and the next month when I got back on the pill were both full of bloating and general misery. I thought it was just my body reacting to the transition of being off again on again with my pill. Also during that time without the pill I actually gained weight even though I was actively trying to lose weight for a beach vacation. Awesome.

Fast forward to the current day! I went on a weekend vacation and forgot my pills. I was mad at myself, but I figured it was just two days and I would pick it back up where I left off when I got back. Not so simple! That was almost a month ago and I am still reaping the consequences. I've had terrible bloating and weight gain. I'm working out, eating right, and generally trying to lose weight for the holidays but nothing seems to budge.

So I don't know if this really helps you, or if it just affirms that this situation is hopeless, but it looks like we're in the same boat. Good luck to you, I hope you feel better soon. I can't wait until my next period, which will hopefully reset everything for me and end this foolishness! I promise, Mother Earth, I will never miss a pill again!

When I miss pills, my period starts. And with that comes the bloating and all that. So, yes.
