Nausea on 1200-1600 calories a day.

I've been eating anywhere from 1200-1600 calories a day and last night I started feeling nauseous. I went to bed thinking that maybe I got the bug my son had and woke up feeling a little better. I had my normal protein shake and about a hour later the feeling came back and has stuck all day.
My ultimate question is, is this due to my recent drop in calorie intake?

Maybe, or maybe it's a bug.

See if it goes in a couple of days, or see if eating at maintenance helps?

I was used to eating 3x more than what I was supposed to be. I'm on my 2nd week of weighing and counting calories. I'm going to the Dr tomorrow for something unrelated so I'll bring it up.

I found some protein/meal replacement shakes made me feel nauseous and/or give me a horrible almost heartburn feeling. Worth considering. Sounds like it might just be a bug though

That sounds like a pretty big drop all at once - it's perfectly fine to ramp your calories back gradually, and probably easier to adjust to and maintain.

How big is your deficit/ what's your weekly weight loss goal?

I went from eating about 6,500 calories down to 1200-1600. I set my weekly loss at 2lbs but lost just over 8lbs last week.

Could also be what you are eating. Is it possible that you have a sensitivity to something you are eating now that you weren't eating before? This is another area that keeping a diary is a HUGE help. It's easy to find any patterns between certain foods, ingredients and habits, and how you feel.

Good Lord Woman, such a fast change from high calories down to low and a large deficit could be the problem. How much weight do you need to lose? 2lbs a week may be too large of a deficit for you.

I know for myself i can not sustain myself on 1200 calories. 1600 is doable for me, just... I'm 5'8" 150lbs.

if you have that much to lose you can definitely eat more and still lose.

    Most definitely!

Are these numbers what mfp gave you or did you input your own calorie goal?

On average I'm eating about 400 less than what I was given.

Update: feeling much better today. Went to my appointment and the Dr said it was most likely to be a stomach bug.

You need to cut only 1000 per day to lose 2 lbs per week. Why not try that for awhile. Reset your weight in MFP once a month to get a new goals for your lower weight.

I googled "protein shakes nausea". Seems that protein shakes often cause nausea. All sorts of articles on how to deal with it.
