Hey guys ive been overweight since my teen years max was 245 lbs I'm 5'9 and my biggest mistake was to eat one big meal a day! My body was in starvation mode, and for my height and body weight i needed way more calories. Anyone out there never eat one meal a day you will get fat due to being in starvation mode

No, no you won't. Your problem was eating too many calories....10

How many calories did you eat in that one meal? And no snacking? No juices/sodas/etc throughout the day?
Starvation mode isn't real. You don't get to 245 pounds by starving yourself.13 -
I find it easier to not go over my calorie limit when I eat 3 meals a day, instead of one large meal a day. If I'm super hungry by the time I sit down for my meal, then I can't seem to be able to stop when I'm full.
Starvation-mode, on the other hand, is a myth. It's physically impossible to create matter out of nothing. If there's no excess food going into one's body, it can't create fat.2 -

Yeah, no. :noway:4 -
Lots of people eat just one meal a day and stay at a healthy weight.

Strongest first post ever.12

Nope. That was either a huge meal or you were sleep snacking.5

Calories in/ calories out, its all in the math. No "mode" required.3

All aboard the myth train! Woo woo!10

That's how I gained 100 lbs .... starving myself! And this whole time I though I was overeating! Amazing! Time to go buy a gallon of ice cream!2

No. You ate too many calories and gained weight.
A lot of people successfully eat one meal a day within their calorie limits and either successfully lose or maintain weight.
I eat twice a day and have lost 90 pounds and am still losing.
Starvation mode as you believe it to be is not a "thing".1 -
OP, you should spend some time just reading the forums first. Start with the threads that are stickied at the top of different sections. Loads of *real* information there.

Just noticed that the OP has left the building. So either a 'returner' sock puppet or a rage quit.3

Yeah, everyone gets overweight by not eating.
I used to think I hardly ate. Turns out, I was somewhat correct; I would eat very high calorie but little volume.

Starvation mode is real Anytime you eat fewer calories than you take in you'll lose weight, barring any medical condition that inhibits weight loss. Eating too few calories in an effort to shed pounds isn't healthy, however, and it isn't the most effective way to weight loss. When you do that, your body goes into starvation mode to conserve energy, and you may find yourself experiencing a weight-loss plateau, not to mention health problems from not getting the nutrients your body needs7

No, it doesn't work that way. But you should always credit your sources so that you don't plagiarize. This paragraph was taken from livestrong.com/article/264810-weight-loss-starvation-mode/5 -
Everything is online do your research people and the individuals in forums going through this3

So you're telling people that have lost their weight successfully that you know better than them......
How many poor souls came out of concentration camps fat because they didn't eat enough?
It's not how often you ate that made you obese, it was how much you ate in total.

ummm....we have done our research....starvation mode has been debunked MANY MANY MANY times...read the posted links in the forum2

You know, before the turn of the century, most people ate only one or two meals a day. Poverty, hunting and gathering, basic survival.. these things tended to get in the way of a steady diet and routine.0

"Conserve" is the operative word. Use less quickly or more efficiently, but still use. According to this, you would lose, just not as quickly. In no way does "conserving" mean "creating".
The people on these forums will quickly jump on wrong information because they want to make sure that all the other newbies are being taken care of, are being properly educated, and aren't getting mixed messages. Let's get some more resources in here:

https://examine.com/nutrition/how-do-i-stay-out-of-starvation-mode/Starvation mode, according to the above definition, is for all practical intents and purposes a myth. It seems to have originated from the Minnesota Starvation Experiment[1], where participants were given 50% of their maintenance calories for months. They lost weight until their body simply had no source for ample calories (fat storage or food intake).
The notion that weight loss can be outright halted secondary to caloric restriction is currently unsupported, although a reduction of metabolic rate may occur. The process of losing weight itself can reduce caloric expenditure as all tissue requires some energy to exist, and most of the reduction in energy expenditure from weight loss can be accounted for from this.[2]
In regards to case studies, there is one recorded report of an obese man fasting for 382 days (medically supervised) which was associated with a lowered metabolic rate but not a cessation of weight loss due to it.[3]0 -

Yup, stealing other people's stuff and trying to pass it off as your own is incredibly dishonest.AmelMarquez wrote: »Everything is online do your research people and the individuals in forums going through this
If your definition of 'research' is copy/paste other people's words as if they're your own, or repeat things you've read off of fearmongering derp and woo sites, then no thanks. I've already done my research in this matter from accredited scientific research and starvation mode aka you-gotta-eat-more-to-lose-weight is hokum.2 -
I have a best friend who really only eats once a day and has yet to be in the overweight category. In fact the only reason why she's gained weight since I met her 5 years ago is because of the medicine she is on but she is still nowhere near overweight and infact has gotten into her ideal weight (she used to complain about being too thin for her height) for her height...shes 5'10 (150lbs was at 132)...ugh how I wish to be tall.
If she does snack its usually a pickle or sunflower seeds or a piece of fruit or welches fruit candy packs
Watching how she eats has really made it clear to me that its all about CICO1
