Bodybuilding Mom of 2 Reportedly Dies of Protein Overdose
The article doesn't say how much protein she consumed. A Urea Cycle Disorder is a rare genetic disease, which according to Wikipedia means: "If individuals with a defect in any of the enzymes used in the cycle ingest amino acids beyond what is necessary for the minimum daily requirements the ammonia that is produced will not be able to be converted to urea." So I don't think this is something that people in general need to worry about.
Hefford was found unconscious in her apartment on June 19 and rushed to the hospital, where it took doctors two days to diagnose her with urea cycle disorder. By that point, the buildup of ammonia in her blood and fluid in her brain was too much, and she was declared brain dead the next day.

This is a typical example of sensationalist hack journalism. She didn't die as a result of eating protein, she died as a result of having a very rare disease. But that doesn't generate as much clickbait ad revenue as a deceptive headline like "Woman Dies From Eating Protein".
What they don't say is that it has absolutely nothing to do with any person who doesn't have this particular, extremely rare disease. But facts aren't important to journalism.25 -

I hate this article, I've been seeing it make its rounds on social media.
It's terrible that she died, but the title of it is going to make a bunch of idiots scream that too much protein is bad for you.4 -
Irresponsible, crappy journalism at its finest. It's like heading an article about summertime dying of untreated type 1 diabetes "man dies of sugar overdose"5

This. There are a few medical conditions where it's bad for you, and most people eat more than they need, but unless you are eating so much protein that you are missing out on other nutrients most people have a wide range of what their body can handle.2 -
I read this earlier today-kind of like how HS football players drop dead on the field and then they find out they had a rare heart defect. Unfortunate, but definitely not the norm.2
