Surviving the process....

Hey friends!! I am goal setting, results driven kinda guy. This means that at times, I get impatient and bored waiting on results. Let's be honest, sometimes it takes a while to see change, and that can be maddening!!! I know we have to fall in love with the process, and results will follow, but any tips on how to get through the "waiting period" and stay on track?

Think of it as a strategic plan, and break it down into a year's worth of tactics (pounds lost, % days at or under goal, strength goals, cardio goals, etc.) to accomplish the long-term strategy. Maybe give yourself a quarterly bonus/award for meeting each quarter's or month's objectives on the long term plan. Spreadsheet out your lifts or your mile times, whatever your workouts are, or maybe special nutritional goals, so you have a lot of data to show your progress. Adjust your expectations to paring off a pound or two each week, rather than losing some unreasonable amount immediately.1

You aren't "waiting", you're actively doing. In my opinion, you are pinpointing why healthy weightloss is so difficult for many people - it's just "too simple" and "too easy". Crazy and unsustainable dieting methods gain traction not just because people tend to think dieting should be hard, as a deserved punishment for "letting oneself go", but also because they make people feel like they're "doing something". MFP is very basic, and weight loss is just CICO. Eating less/moving more is necessary, but "just eat less" is possibly not effective for you to use as an overarching strategy. I used to recommend "making weightloss as easy as possible", but now I think it should be made as "interesting" as possible.
Personally, I've made a number of small changes and some big changes, and habits and attitudes and preferences and environment have evolved dynamically in this process, making every day fresh and challenging:
I plan my meals. Meal planning has become a hobby.
I only eat food I like. I love food unconditionally now.
I don't fear any foods, food groups or nutrients.
I don't stock up on foods I have trouble moderating.
I like my body, I accept how it's built and am amazed how it works.
I understand the process more deeply, and therefore I can trust the process.
I understand that losing weight is just the introductory class. Maintaining weight is for life. Is this a lifestyle I would want for the rest of my life?
I eat, think and move like a normal weigh person.
How can you make the process more interesting for you?8 -
