Dr. said I was pre-diabetic. Recommended to cut back on carbs, so I am. Three days in. I'm going for 56g carbs (15%), 94g protein (25%), and 100g fat (60%). 1500 calories a day. No idea what I was eating before three days ago. The carbs part has been easy but the 1500 calories is challenging. This is all new to me, everything I know regarding weight loss is from the internet, so...yikes. Friends welcome for the journey and me for yours, cheers and best of luck to everyone.

Good for you for taking the steps to get healthy! My husband & I both work in health care & I would say about 85% of people that get that news do absolutely nothing about it & wind up paying dearly with their quality of life. It is 100% reversible if you tackle it head on! In fact, my hubby has a family history of diabetes & heart disease, so when his last blood work came back not looking so great (near the pre-diabetic level) we both used MFP to track our sugar intake and scale way back on it. It's super hard at first, I won't lie....I love sweets so it took about two weeks to get over the "detox" but let me tell you, after that it's smooth sailing! Your sugar cravings will decrease & you will feel so much better! Just keep at it...you can do it! Congratulations for taking the first step to a new healthy life! Feel free to add me for encouragement!

Not pre-dead, more of a heads up to reduce your calories and lose weight.

What weight and height are you? Maybe 1500 is too drastic a cut for you.

I was pre-diabetic for almost a decade, and T2 diabetic for a decade after. Now in remission after significant weight loss. I've been to dozens of nutrition classes.

More than one health professional has noted that diabetics are their own best advocates. As you must monitor your energy levels and your eating well, every couple hours, you become your own best lab rat. You'll learn a lot. The diabetic diet is generally healthy so you will probably improve a lot of things by getting your eating under control. Note also when you get the fuzzy headed feeling (sugar high) and keep notes of what you just ate. That will give you a clue what you need to change.

This was the very best advice I got starting out.

Once you get an idea how a plate is to be laid out, you won't forget it.

I was pre-diabetic when I started...I did not go super low carb, but I dropped things like sodas and limited my sweets and changed up my carbs to include more complex carbs...legumes, lentils, potatoes and sweet potatoes...and less simple carbs (my sodas, sweets, too much fruit, etc)

I'd also say that just losing some weight will go along way...exercise is also very beneficial to getting those numbers down.
