I use to be skinny fat, with a pot belly. i started working in 2012, i walked into the gym as a novice. i had no idea of what i was doing or what i was gonna do. over the year i have learnt, made mistakes, but never made any significant progress. Until recently that i came across the right information all for free. i have made significant progress over the past 14 weeks lost 27 lbs. i am pretty excited and i am still going on.

Before you choose a workout plan, you need to figure out diet plan. Most important thing is WHAT TO EAT AND HOW MUCH TO EAT. Its the most important fact to consider during any fat loss process.7

I'm not sure WHAT we eat really matters as long as we get appropriate macros, micros, and we can stay on plan. You seem to be trying to promote something. The truth is that getting lean or gaining muscle are really simple and diet plans should be flexible.5 -
Just created MFP account few hours ago and i have no friends here kindly send me request plzz really need motivation to loose weight2
-
i am not trying to promote anything at all. in fact all i used during my 14 week run was Pre-workout, protein supplement and BCAA and you can get that anywhere bro. Yes you need too get you Macro right. but in a calorie deficit some things matter like volume. For instance i will rather eat 300g of Broccoli than 300g of sweet potato. they are both good food and i eat both of them but broccoli keeps me full more and not a lot of calories compared to potato. you know what i mean.4
-
Macros are important to a degree, but that's still highly individual. Adequate protein for most is .8 grams per pound of lean mass, but to others they need more to not be hungry. I agree that for some food volume is important. I need a balance between sweets and volume, so I suck it up and eat vegetables to save room for ice cream and candy (sometimes a woman has to give into her cravings without blowing her cut).2

Same.
300g of sweet potatoes have 92% carbs and only 7% protein, while the same weight of broccoli is only 64% carbs and 27% protein AND half the calories.
Nice job btw you look great!4 -

Actually, many of the people who come in and talk about what we eat being a factor are going to tell people they can't eat certain foods. That's where the broscience comment comes from and where my calling out your WHAT we eat comment comes from. No foods are off limits.1 -

I don't think he said anything about "new" information. Maybe I missed it, though.3 -

People can choose how to lose weight on whatever approach they think will fit their needs or liking. Some like IIFYM, some like OMAD, some like keto, etc.
Point being that to get lean they all have one thing in common................................eating less than you burn.

@ninerbuff are you having a bad day?
I can't see any justification for you to start making arguments (strawman?) against the OP.
I read the OP as someone that figured out how to get to their goals and wanted to share their story. I guess you could argue that he's on the wrong forum for that, but I didn't read anything that he wrote that sounds like bro science.
Maybe you know him better than I do..7 -

That's how I read the OP, too. I know he saidMost important thing is WHAT TO EAT AND HOW MUCH TO EATbut in a calorie deficit some things matter like volume. For instance i will rather eat 300g of Broccoli than 300g of sweet potato. they are both good food and i eat both of them but broccoli keeps me full more
But without directly asking the OP for clarification, I suppose we'll never know and have to rely on assumptions.4 -

If what you eat really mattered so much, then other countries that have access to fast food, processed foods, junk foods, etc. should have the same overweight and obesity issues we have in the US. If it mattered so much, then as I have mentioned before, people in prison shouldn't be able to get lean or ripped.
What he did figure out is that he did need to eat less than he was eating CALORIE WISE via eating less calorie dense food. I'll give him kudos for that. But to say that IT MATTERS WHAT YOU EAT isn't entirely true nor mandatory to get lean. That's broscience.

Maybe its not rocket science but i wonder lots of people are struggling. The fact is you can loose weight on whatever you eat as long as you consume less calories but tell that to guy who had about 2000 calories or less to eat to achieve his goal. If he doesn't pick his food right staying full throughout the day with enough energy to workout and run the day will difficult. that is why i think saying you can you can loose weight while eating whatever you want is Half the information some people. That was why i mentioned what eat in my initial post.3

Exactly man! Congrats on the weight loss.
People around this place want to tell everyone simply to just eat less. "Eat anything you want as long as you are in a calorie deficit" is the answer to every question, but no one tells people how they should go about finding a way to sustainably hold that deficit without feeling starved.7 -

Thank you for this clarification. Yes, people should take into consideration satiety when choosing what foods to incorporate into their meal planning, or risk being hungry throughout. However, it's still not necessary, just more miserable at times. The vast majority of people who post what you eat matters are referring to no white foods, no sugar, no bread, not fat, no carbs, etc, etc. ad nauseum on the list of foods that one must avoid to lose weight. Which is completely ridiculous that people should feel like they are doomed to failure if they don't give up the foods they enjoy. That seems miserable too.2 -

Yes, you are correct in saying that just a caloric deficit is need to lose weight.
I think it's safe to say that he's not talking about losing weight at any cost.

I never mentioned i was on a 2000 calorie diet. that was an instance. also i am not 5'7 i am 6'1 maybe you will need my DL to prove that.lol. you seem really quick to come to conclusion and missing the whole point even after i tried to clarify. I believe you can make smarter choices of what you need to eat when you are in a calorie deficit that also a fact. And why do you have to stay full all day? really? can you go to bed hungry and get a good night sleep.lol2

To put it into perspective, at 5'7" and 53 I can sit on the couch all day and eat 2000 calories and lose 1lbs a week. So I personally think he's under eating to meet his goal. He mention losing about 2lbs a week for 14 weeks. And I doubt if he was over 200lbs to begin with.

That was YOUR quote. So are we to assume that's false now? If it's inaccurate, the what was your actual calorie count per day to lose 2lbs a week and how much did you weigh when you started?also i am not 5'7 i am 6'1 maybe you will need my DL to prove that.lol.you seem really quick to come to conclusion and missing the whole point even after i tried to clarify.I believe you can make smarter choices of what you need to eat when you are in a calorie deficit that also a fact. And why do you have to stay full all day? really? can you go to bed hungry and get a good night sleep.lol
