Will I still lose weight eating carbs?

I'm on a 1,200 calorie diet..
Today I hit my calorie count, I went like 7 calories over. For breakfast I had yoghurt, lunch a small salad and dinner I ate a chicken toastie and some potatoes... I weighed it all and I'm only 7 calories over.. will I still lose weight eating bread and potato if it's within my calories or should I be removing it from dinner?

Weight loss is 100% about total calories9

Weight management is about energy (calories)...it doesn't really have anything to do with carbs.
When you consume a balance of energy...i.e. CI=CO, you maintain your weight...when you consume more energy than your body requires, that excess energy is stored as body fat...body fat is just stored energy for later...it's like your backup generator. When you consume less energy than your body requires, that deficiency has to be made up...this is when your backup generator kicks on and you burn body fat.
Going low carb is just one of many ways of creating an energy deficiency...by eliminating or restricting an entire macro-nutrient, you are restricting calories...4 -
You could eat bread all day long and lose weight... as long as it fits in your caloric goal. Problem with white bread is that it leaves me hungry so I treat it like a treat.5

I just want to know what a chicken toastie is?!? It sounds like something I need to try!
Yes, OP. Eat carbs. They're yummy and provide energy for your body. Calorie deficit is what causes weight loss.5 -

A toastie is pretty much like a toasted sandwich with cheese and any other fillings that you put in and put in a grill with two metal plates so the cheese melts. Mine was chicken, cheese and some BBQ sauce. In the UK we call them toasties haha11

That sounds nice. I have a panini press collecting dust in somewhere. I should find it and put it to good use.3 -

Another toastie eater here. Unless the sandwich press seals the edges shut while leaving the filling in pockets, then its a jaffle.5 -
I eat 162g carbs every day and still lose.1

I eat carbs galore. Pizza, naan, multiple times a week. Lost weight.
On a different note, 1200 Cal seems pretty low2 -
I've been eating Arnold wheat thins almost everyday and last night I had 2 crescent rolls. I started at 145 and I now weigh 136. Yes you'll lose weight0

Yes OP you can eat carbs and still lose weight. Calories are what matter for weight loss. I'm always curious where people get their misconceptions about diet and weight loss. Did you read somewhere that eating carbs prevents weight loss or makes it more difficult?
Additionally, 1200 cals is the minimum target for women and may not be necessary to go that low in order to lose. What are your stats: height, weight, goal weight? What rate of loss did you choose? Do you exercise? Do you log and eat back a portion of those calories when you do?1 -
Carbs are not evil! Repeat: not evil!
(But saying that: I know I've done better in cutting them way down and upping my protein.)
Macros are good guidelines, but nothing horrible happens if you go over or under them. It's the overall calorie intake that matters. Do not freak out.1 -

Oh no I know. I meant specifically which sites or blog posts did the OP read because usually where there is one misunderstanding, there are several more lurking, and knowing what the source was would help identify other potential pitfalls for the OP.2 -

I eat b/t 1600-1800 cals daily. I eat about 50% from carbs, and I am down 30lbs.2

You need carbs for energy. Why does everything think carbs are bad? Carbs aren't the main culprit of weight gain.2

I'm 5'6, currently 10 stone 12 now, goal weight is 10 stone. I chose 2 lb a week. Don't eat exercise calories back. My exercise is on and off, some weeks I'll exercise 3-4 times a week and others I don't at all.
I find the only way I can lose is by not eating carbs and sticking to 1200 calories. I got to 10 stone 7, but as soon as I start introducing carbs back into my diet such as pasta and bread it goes back on!0 -

That is a really ambitious and unnecessary goal at your weight and height. If the only way you can lose is by aiming for 1200 and not eating carbs or exercise calories, it says to me that you're trying to force an overly large deficit and may be risking your health.2 -
I'm a carb cutter, but my person experience is that cutting carbs is more a "trick" for lowering calories and staying full than based on any inherent problem with carbs over other macros. When I started deliberately lowering my carbs and increasing my protein, I just found it a LOT easier to meet my calorie goals.5
-
Okay, 2lbs per week is too aggressive and you are highly unlikely to lose at that rate with so little to lose.
You are not gaining fat when reintroducing carbs. It's just water from glycogen replenishment and more food in the gut. Perhaps more sodium also causing water retention. That can all mask losses. I am trending 4lbs over my lowest and another 1-2 over what my losses should show on the scale. It's not fat, it's impossible, I haven't eaten enough for that to be the case. The scale lies a lot.
If you don't eat any exercise calories back you are undereating. 1200 is the bare minimum to meet nutritional needs.1 -

When you started adding carbs back in, that increased your glycogen levels, which in turn increases water weight. It's not actual fat.
That said, with only 12 pounds to lose you should be aiming for half a pound a week. Eat that much plus at least a portion of your exercise calories while logging everything as accurately as possible.2
