Has anyone done fasting? How does it work ?

    Just to clarify do you mean Intermittent Fasting or starving yourself?

    I find it helps keep my appetite in check. Thats it. I wake at about 8am and I dont eat until 5pm (a bit of the more semi-extreme fasting point of view lol) and start my day with a big green smoothie that holds me off until 8 when i eat a big dinner and then some snacks right before i sleep. I sleep beter, have more energy, Get to feel full, Sleep beter with a full stomach.

    Its just easier for me to eat at night knowing i still have all my calories, Vs running out and having to feel like im missing out and starving. Also ensures i have calories if i want to go out on a date/drinking occasionally

    My appetite doesnt get fired up until i start eating, When i eat breakfast im hungry for the rest of the day, Aslong as i dont eat i feel fine. I drink some black coffee (sometimes alot of it) and try to get walking both dulls my appetite. Thats it though its still all about calories, Its just a way some people find keeps them within the calorie limits.

    edit: Eating this way has lead to healthier choices on my part to, Since im not like starving all day and when i do eat chances are its when im at home able to make good choices. Aslong as i force myself to drink my big delicious cold green smoothie at 5pm vs reaching for junk if im craving it by that point (some days but most im fine since i know how good my good food makes me feel lol) then the rest of the day im not even that hungry, Or even before then by this point but still. Makes good choices easier. Even when i tell myself healthy meal now snacks later- 99% of the time i dont even want the snacks later

    I've done the intermittent for 3 days now. (I don't eat anything until noon). I have a few hunger pains but I try and drink tea or water to quiet it. Doesn't always help! :). I feel lighter and it seems I am more energetic...it also saves me a bunch of calories for the day. I'm usually a big breakfast eater! It's worth a try!

    I'm not a big breakfast eater myself so that actually sounds good to me lol but I need caffeine in the morning I don't know how to cut my coffee out

    Intermittent fasting
    Intermittent fasting means that you will be eating all of your meals (calories) in a time window and when that window expires or closes then you stop eating - this period of not eating is usually the longer window. For example lets say you go to bed at 9:00 pm and wake up at 7:00 am. You don't start eating for seven hours i.e. you have from 2:00 pm up till 8:59 pm to eat all of your meals to hit your caloric target. I believe you are allowed water, BCAAs and black coffee/espresso (not 100% certain about this last bit)
    Just be cautious of binge eating :#

    I do tend to intermittent fast on weekends, it wasn't intentional I just like my weekend lie ins and tend to have brunch instead of a separate breakfast and lunch, which gives me more calories to play with for socialising whether it be meals out, takeaway, cinema snacks or drinks.

    The beauty of it is you don't have to stick to someone elses idea of IF, the rules are not etched in stone. If you want coffee in the morning, have coffee in the morning. IF is only successful if it works for you. Coffee calories are fairly negligible if you're not talking about a starbucks sugar/cream filled monstrosity.

    So you could have your coffee and forego food til whatever time suits. The important thing for weight loss is that you hit your calorie allowance for the day, IF is just a method to help you do that.

    I'm pretty sure coffee is fine if you drink it black.

    Having said that, IF isn't magic, it is just a way to rearrange your daily calories so it's easier for you to eat the right amount. I don't eat anything until noon, but I have coffee with a little milk and hot chocolate mix in the morning. So I guess technically I'm not doing "IF", but I find not eating in the AM has cut down my cravings and appetite a bit, and saving the 200-300 calories I'd eat at breakfast for later in the day makes me happy :).

    Yes lots of people have. I've done both 5:2 and 16:8 styles. The former I liked, the later I didn't.

    There's many different IF protocols but for weight loss it works the same as any other diet - a calorie deficit.
    IF helps some people adhere to that deficit but it's personal whether it makes adherence easier or harder.

    16:8 may well suit you if you find it easy to skip breakfast - you can still have your morning coffee, it's really not that prescriptive.

    There are more protocols to IF besides the daily eating window ones. 5:2 and ADF have nothing to do with windows, but how much you eat on certain days. There's also doing a single 24 hr fast per week. 5:2 & ADF are the only ones really geared towards weight loss, the others can sometimes help people with adhering to a calorie deficit, but they inherently don't allow you to lose weight just because you eat within a window.

    you don't have to, you can drink coffee while fasting

    Thanks for hitting me up, hope all is well! To answer your question: Dr. Eric Berg and a guy by the name of Thomas DeLauer. They have plenty of material as it relates to intermittent fasting to include the how the boys reacts to insulin. Hope this helps. Very exciting once you get into it. Its really exciting seeing the results.

    I do IF also. I try to stick with 23:1 (one meal a day) but sometimes I eat within a few hours, like 20:4. Keeping such a small window for me has kept me from over eating and because I eat all my calories during this window, I am really full and don't think about snacking or grazing all day long. I eat around noon. I drink black coffee and water during the rest of fasting hours. I find that it's truly works for me because it doesn't restrict what foods I eat. I have a huge sweet tooth and I get to enjoy them everyday with my meal.

    I never lost any real weight unless I ate breakfast every day. Only water and solid waste. Just my experience in my 130 lb loss

    I've been doing IF since April, I've lost around 25 pounds. It's the only thing that works for me. I've never been a big breakfast eater so I find this suits me. Besides eating in my window on fast days I found not having dairy, bread/pasta & absolutely no sugar helps. Eating fuel foods on your fast days is important. Just changing that mindset (from food is bad to food is fuel) seemed to be the key for me. 1st 2 weeks are hard (hunger pains), so I self-talked myself through it (eat your fat stores) & drinking lots of water. Wishing you success!

    Been doing IF since mid June. Total weight loss 20-25 lbs. I'd post a pic but not sure how.

    Intermittent fasting is great for me. Been doing it for 160 days and down 40lbs so easy to follow and good benifits. Add me if your a fellow faster
