weight loss projection

when I registered I hoped to loose 2lb per week and have eaten the 1200 calories per day or slightly less. my nutrient intake is close to the recommended intake however my daily projection shows if I continue as is I will lose 5lb in 5 weeks time. How can this be when I am doing exactly as the app suggests for a 2lb weekly loss? Any advice appreciated

Ignore the projection. It's just an indicator. It's not really possible to estimate progress of 5 weeks based on single day.
Also, unless you have a lot of weight to lose, 2lb/1200 Cal plan is likely too agressive.1 -
The projection differs every day for me, so I disregard it and concentrate on actual weight loss.0

The projection is just a gimmick so don't lose too much sleep over it.
Having said that, 1200 is the lowest cals mfp will give you because it is too difficult to get adequate nutrition on lower than that for most people. It's probable that 2 lbs is an unrealistic goal for your stats and you would need to eat lower than 1200 cals to do so, which would be inadvisable.4 -
Thanks for your comments guys. I have just weighed in and have lost 2.5lb this week. I have about 20lb that I would like to loose, so are you saying I should be eating more than 1200 per day.0

MFP says I've put on 2lbs, but I just weighed myself and have lost 1.50

MFP just applies basic maths.
If you chose 0.5lb a week loss it minuses 250 calories a day off your NEAT
1lb minuses off 500 calories a day
2lb minuses off a whopping 1000 calories a day
MFP to not promote under eating will not give you a goal below 1200. It over rides the maths.1 -

Yes with only 20 lbs to lose, you should be aiming for no more than 1 lb per week. You should also be logging exercise and eating at least some of them back.
Losing weight aggressively when you don't have much to lose risks sacrificing a larger % of muscle mass and underfueling your body.3
