I'm currently trying to find out how much I can eat and still lose. I was eating 1200 for five months and nearly lost my mind- I had a good amount to lose (20 pounds).

I got up to about 1800 calories by adding 100 calories every week and my weight has stayed the same. Right now I'm at 1600 and losing, and I plan to get back up to 1800 again to see what happens.

I'm 5'3 and currently 124 pounds, trying to get down to 115. I strength train 5 days per week with minimal cardio.

2900 presently. I'm eating everything I can, and jesus christ it hurts. I have no clue how some of you do 3k-4k every day. Insulin shot and coma?

    I don't know. I think 2500 calories is easy. I can't imagine another 400 killing me.

ETA I can only eat 1800 to maintain so this makes me sad.

May I ask if these higher caloric intake numbers are earned by extensive workouts and for the purpose of building muscle? Only asking because they sound delicious. ;) I try to eat about 1200 because I am trying to lose.

I assume the poster you are most likely questioning is bulking.

I've been averaging around 2,600 or so lately, I often come a little short of my actual calorie goal (2,650) and often fail to eat back exercise calories. I may need to up my intake to 2,800 or so.

Back when I posted 6 months ago I hadn't been logging and was mostly estimating. But with more accurate tracking now, 2100-2300 is about maintenance for me at 120 lbs. I have a desk job and do 2-3 hours of cardio a week plus some lifting.

It depends on the posters, but i know a lot of women who only workout a few days a week are at higher calories than you. I guess id ask how active you are (including exercise), what your stats are, and how much you are losing per week at 1200.

I'm a 64 year-old man, 6'2" tall. I still have 3 lbs to lose, maybe more. I'm at -1.4 lbs per week with about 1600 calories ingested a day and about 2500 calories per week in aerobic exercise. The charts tell me maintenance calories will be around 2050. Sometimes I wish I was losing 40 years instead of 40 lbs!

5’10”, up to 170 now, and gain has stalled with 3150 per day. Going to be bumping to 3400 next week, after I get some things straight with my doctor.

I find 2900 is not a lot of food...even worse is when I see women eating at 1200 calories, I don't know how they do it, I would be starving to death. When I was cutting at 2400 calories, I thought that was little food.

    Everyone's body has different requirements

Understood, but I would be much happier eating 3500.
