Am I the only one who is sick and tired of putting foods in only to find that they are inaccurate???!!
Example 1: I had a Mcdonalds burger the other day, which apparently had NO saturated fat in it. Of course I didn't believe it so I went onto the website and found it had 6g of saturated fat in it.
Example 2: Fruit. Some of the fruit that I put in comes up with no vitamin C in it, even though I bloody well know it has some in it!!
Example 3: Trying to plan tomorrow's food diary. I type in a mini pie I would like to eat tomorrow and all 3 options on here say it is much lower in fat and calories then it says on the box.
Can people not read properly???
It is seriously doing my FRUIT in! I also see other people food diaries and see things on there that are clearly not accurate (chocolate bars with no saturated fat etc) and I get wound up-we are all trying really hard to lose weight here and the people who submit these foods wrongly are just confusing the hell out of everyone.

I think sometimes people just put in the calories for the item instead of putting in all the info as it's quicker. You could always just enter your food items yourself into the database instead of using other people's entries?0

On the fruit thing. Unless I go and look it up somewhere there is no way of knowing how much vitimans are in these items. They do not put this info on the lables here in the UK .. well at least not the ones I have seen anyway.0

A lot of people here are here to count calories and probably don't pay much attention to the other things, so when they are adding them to the database they only include what is important to them.
It's frustrating, but at least you can edit any inaccurate entries to make them contain ALL the nutritional information.0 -

OH MY GOSH! Yeah, I hate it, too! Like, yesterday and the day before. I got pizza from somewhere, and it was chicken and bacon pizza, but there was no option without bacon in the database. >< I didn't allow them to put bacon on it because I don't eat pork, so I had to really say I was eating less than I was, and I don't like how I had to guess because I don't know how many calories are in bacon. Anyway, yeah I have also noticed other things are not what they say they are.... forever once there was an item that people kept saying was 60 calories, and it really was 90 calories. I think that person who put it in was dyslexic. Grrrr... :mad:0

A lot of people here are here to count calories and probably don't pay much attention to the other things, so when they are adding them to the database they only include what is important to them.
It's frustrating, but at least you can edit any inaccurate entries to make them contain ALL the nutritional information.
Yeah I guess so, It's just so frustrating as It ends up taking twice as long to plan my diary! How do you edit inaccurate entries? I went to add the pie in myself and it wouldn't let me add it to the database because the pie was already on there....0 -

like....'100% accurate pie!' lol. I know everyone makes mistakes but lately as I have been busier I have found it more and more of a chore recording my food on here-especially when some of it is inaccurate!0 -
Some international foods have differing nutritional data; I have found that various UK products have less sodium than their US counterparts, so when I enter foods, I make a point of stating that the numbers are for Euro or UK-specific. Recipes also change too, which could also account for discrepancies.
Having said that, I *have* seen things which are just flat-out incorrect! 400cals for 100g of green beans, for instance! And at the other end of the scale, 150 cals for 100g dry spaghetti! I don't know if it's wishful thinking, or dyslexia on the part of some members, but I make sure I check entries whenever possible!
Regarding missing information - I do find it quite irritating but it doesn't take long to add it in, and then at least I know it's correct. I realise that not everyone is as anally-retentive as I am, plus they may not actually consider that other people will be using their entries!0 -

So by that logic, you could eat as many potatoes, avocados, grapes and bananas as you like and not have to worry about it? Not sure I can agree with that!0 -
I guess it's because some people only want the cal-count for the quickest logging option and don't want to have to go to the laborious task of entering lines of data for every item they add in. I don't think it's because people can't read.0

I know I get so frustrated with the data base too. So many of the same items all different. I will add it myself if I have the nutritional label. Sometimes I just scan it with the bar scanner from my phone but sometimes that is incorrect too. I don't think people should add a food to the data base unless they are putting in all the information. They are entering it for other people to use and most of us don't count just calories. We need all nutrition information.0

Start adding stuff yourself... If you want to be completely accurate. You can save it in your foods list.
Nothing on this site is exact... Especially if you are having food out. The person that prepares your food could be making it different than the nutritional info that is on line. There was actually a story about it on t.v. and it makes sense. If you order a salad someone could add in a bit more or less cheese, the chicken could be smaller or larger, etc... etc...
I try to cross check foods as much as possible on this site but when it comes to a piece of fruit, I am not going to sweat it.0 -
I always enter my food on my own when I make each meal.
I don't want any inaccurate information...
And it makes it a little bit more surreal when I look at the nutrition facts on my own.0 -

it is a free website that relies on the entries of the members to have this amazing database of foods!! When I first started on here there was a limited amount of the foods that I used. Now it is rare that I look something up that is not already entered. If it is the first time I am looking it up, I always double check the info. I will click that it is correct, or edit it if it is not. But there are items that sometimes change on the packaging by the manufacturer over time as well b/c they have changed their processes. Also, there are differences in nutritional values depending on where you live. I usually look for the items that have the most confirmations and use those. The best thing to do is to correct the info if you find it incorrect....hopefully you won't hit the wrong button and put something in wrong though .
Also...a tip for looking up raw foods like meats and veggies and fruits...
type in "apple raw" or "tomato raw" and you will see an entry that has a TON of confirmations and a drop down menu for different preparations and serving sizes.0 -
I have to be honest I only record macronutrients fat, protein, carbs, calories and I personally watch salt and maybe calcium, but Im not going to record every vitamin or mineral in something. For one it takes a lot of research of every ingredient in a single recipe to do this, and if Im eating a relatively balanced diet, for me lots of fresh fruit and veggies, with lean meat and when I use oil it is olive I dont have to really sweat the small stuff. Now if I was really concerned about cholesterol or saturated fat because one of my goals were to lower my levels of these things I can see why it could be frustrating, but thats not something I personally have to worry about so I dont take the time to include all that information. Lets face it if it doesnt come in a box, again I have to research a lot of information to include all of this, and well I think for the most part it is best not to eat out of a box so the info is not at my finger tips to include, on the occasion that I do and it is an item I chose to add, I will include the info for people who really want it.
Good luck trying to figure it all out, try not to get to frustrated by all of it I think over all it is a pretty good site.0 -
