Potato chipaholic

What's your substitute for chips? I've tried veggie sticks and can't stand them. I'm a chipaholic. Also I could really use friends for motivation. I'm back after a year of health problems.

My substitute is buying the individual size bags instead of the large ones when I have a chip craving, usually once or twice a week. I work those 250 calories into my daily calorie goal and I have no risk of eating too much since it's a small bag.14

I only have chips once a month or so. A serving of chips is one bag for me - regardless of the size bag.
Now I have toasted bread for crunch, or pickles or sliced-thin and salted raw vegetables.5 -
I have several. Quest chips, Pirates booty and turkey jerky chips. I buy shaved turkey lunch meat, give each slice a quick dip in teriyaki and then dehydrate overnight. Delicious, salty and crunchy.3

Lunch size bags will allow a bag everyday.
I'm not a chip eater but love popcorn. I eat too much if it's a big open bag. Instead I make a big microwave bowl of popcorn. I use a little oil for moisture, to help the salt stick.2 -
I just eat chips. But I never buy the full size bags. I get those snack size bags, eat one, log it and I'm all good. If I buy the full size bags, all it takes is a moment of weakness and I'm on the couch with a bag watching a movie, mindlessly eating until 1/2 of the bag is gone.2

I am not really a chipaholic, but I buy the baked cheetos, because I do love cheetos. I enjoy them and to me there is no big difference. I do buy the individual bags. What is hard for me to sit and eat a few is crackers. I do not know why but I like eating plain old crackers. I rarely buy them, but when I do I end up eating a few everytime I see the box.0

I'm low carb so my go-to are pork rinds and whisps (parmesan crisps)3

Individual bags vs family size, so you are limited1

One more for the individual sized bags. I just wish I could find the mix I want. Was worse on my holiday in the US. I don't like corn chips (doritos and the like) and could not find a box of small bags that didn't have them. So I was back to full sized bags.
Be happiest to find a box of salt & vinegar.1 -
I love potato chips, so I don't want any substitutes. I regularly make room in my calories for an ounce of potato chips. As long as I control the portion and put away the bag, I do fine.1

I bake kale leaves to make them crispy (coated with some OO and seasonings first). They aren't as good as potato chips (crisps in the UK!) bug I struggle to eat just one individual bag!!2

I rarely eat chips because they don't satisfy my hunger. If I eat one I want to eat as many as are in the house. So I avoid them and eat something else. Plain yogurt with olives is salty and more filling. A fruit shake in the blender can make my tummy feel nice and bloated.
If I really want chips, I make sure to measure them and eat them with a protein, e.g. cheese melted on tortilla chips or a light sour cream dip for potato chips. Also, I'm more able to limit unsalted chips than salted ones.2 -
dont buy them if you can't control yourself with them.
Plenty of things I dont buy cause I will binge on until theyre gone. i might treat myself with it once a month or so but i wont keep it in the house on a regular basis.3 -
I'm a chip monster and it's seriously a problem. I just love the crunch and flavours.....sooooo good. I'm definetly addicted to chips but this week starting today i am cutting them out of my life for good. So to satisfy that crunch factor I like to get those rice crackers and dip with humus also air popped popcorn with a drizzle of coconut oil is delicious. Pickles and olives work for that vinegar factor if you love salt and vinegar chips like I do.0

Oh yes! Forgot to mention the cheese crisps. They are a great substitute.

Special k cracker chips aren't bad. You get a lot for 120 calories but they're not so good that you eat the whole bag. Don't ever try Grandma Utz's handmade potato chips....1
-
I eat the 1 ounce bags.1
-
I buy the Beanitos brand of chips - they're made from beans so they have more fiber and protein! It helps me feel satisfied after a serving. They even have a brand of 'cheetos'! They sound weird but I love em! Fair warning ; they aren't potato chip like, more like a corn chip.1

I love potato chips and tortilla chips and salsa...I don't have any substitutes, I just don't really keep them in the house. I will usually do chips and salsa when we're hosting a BBQ or something and it's just one of those occasions I just let myself indulge and move along. The only time I eat potato chips is when I'm camping...I just enjoy every nibble and don't worry about it...
I've tried the individual bag thing and I just end up eating multiple bags...once I get started on chips, there's no stopping...I've just learned to live without them most of the time.3 -
Who can eat just one? I don't buy them and if I see them find it easier to eat none, than to eat in moderation.1

Yeah, this is me. I love the taste of them, but I have a very hard time judging when I'm full and am very likely to eat until I feel sick. I'm all for moderation whenever possible, but chips are just not great for me to have around. A single serving is just so tiny, I figure "well, maybe a serving and a half" or "maybe two little packages". I have better luck with popcorn, although I can go to town on that too if I'm not careful. Cheese and olives have become my go-to snack now - they're still super delicious, but I can actually stop after 100-150 calories. The last time I had chips was on a long car trip in mid-July, and I ate 640 calories worth of Cheetos. My stomach hurts just thinking about it.
ETA: I totally forgot that I ate a single-serving bag of baked Lays when I donated blood last week. But I figure anything you can eat out of the free stash during your 15 minute recovery is fair game. I had some apple juice too, and I almost never drink calories that aren't alcoholic. I'm weirdly looking forward to having some Oreos when I go back in a couple of months, which is funny, because we have Oreos in the house all the time and I pretty much never want them.0 -
I just eat the little individual bags.
I usually have enough willpower to stop at one bag.
I also only buy a couple of the little bags at a time so if I do eat two it isn't a big deal and I don't have any more.1 -
I am a cheap *kitten*, so what I do is buy the party size bags, then one night after I finished eating a nice dinner (so i'm less hungry when I do it), I portion them out with little snack packs into 1oz portions. That seems to work to satisfy my cravings, control my portions, and save me a wee bit of money than buying them in individual bags.1
-
i like the pringles snack stacks and the stacys cinnamon pita chips. If i want regular chips i stick to the baked lays. Though i did try the taco flavored lays when we went to subway this weekend. .They were awesome and i even managed to give half the little bag to my husband because i ate my giant steak and cheese chopped salad before i tried them. (i know me so well. . he he he)1

Love chips. But I love losing weight more so I don't eat them currently.3
-
I can't keep chips in the house. I could eat an entire bag in one sitting. No discipline around them. Sucks...but they are banned from my house.2
-
I can't eat regular potato chips. I was a potato chip addict!! Like some others, no matter what bag I would get I'd eat them ALL. I think 80% of my extra fat is due to potato chips because I was eating them every day. Most of the bags sold in the stores that "look like" individual size, really are not. I didn't realize this until I got on MFP and started paying more attention to labels. They have 2 or 2.5 servings in those small bags!
So I'm basically cold turkey, but now and then I'll get the pop chips, which come in a small bag and are only 100 calories. I can only buy ONE little bag.1 -
A small bag isn't going to satisfy me, and there isn't really a substitute. Three times per year I probably eat all the chips I want in one sitting and move on.
Popcorn works because I can eat it in pretty high volume. I'd still do it but I make it so salty. Between that and the carbs I get puffy and it's not cute.2 -

Only half.. Rookie.. ;-)1
