Scale discouragement.

Do you ever step on the scale and constantly worry about what the number are? I've only lost 3 pounds and I get discouraged because I don't think i can loose more weight unless I get sick or something. I recently turned vegetarian but I feel like that not even helping me. I work all the time so all I can do is snack. When I get a meal, its too small of a portion or too big. I work in the mall so food court food is nasty and all the delis are packed full of people. I can never eat healthy food cuz the line is so long. Any suggestions? I wanna feel comfortable every time I eat and step on the scale. I don't want to "snack" all day. I want a healthy meal.

Why not prepare your own food and take it to work with you?

Ok I mean this in the nicest of ways....

When I read your post it seems like you keep telling me why you can't be successful... I can't lose weight unless I am sick, I can't eat healthy b/c of the food court, I can only snack b/c when I eat it's either too small or too big. I've only lost 3 lbs.

You have to work at this. You get out of it what you put into it. You need to eat right, and at the right times. You need to make good food choices.

You can decide how you want to proceed. I wish you the best of luck. Maybe if you start talking about a small change and work on that you'll start seeing how you CAN do what you want to do.

I'd say pack a lunch as well. This can help you quite a bit. Maybe cutting down on sodium would give you those last couple pounds of water that might be retained by salts.

As an aside: This is not to discourage you at all, but just from a guy's perspective, why do you want to lose weight? You are SMOKIN' HOT!

Going by your photos, if you were to lose any more weight, you'd start looking sickly.

    I hope that helps.

Pack a lunch. Also, congrats on going veg! I've been one for over 7 years. It can be difficult to lose weight even as a vegetarian because you can justify eating a pint of ice cream or a cheese pizza by saying "it's vegetarian". A lot of people confuse "vegetarian" and "healthy"..there are TONS of bad for you veggie foods. You can still enjoy them, just do it in moderation. I suggest sitting down once a week and planning out your meals and doing your grocery shopping according to that list. It helps cut down on wasteful spending (buying stuff you don't need), wasting food you end up not eating, and you won't buy junk food. Budget in some snacks, but try to make healthier choices in that department, too. It just takes planning and dedication. And don't get discouraged by the scale not moving. Eat better, exercise when you can (schedule it into your day if you have to), and drink lots of water. It'll start moving. Also, are you taking your measurements? Sometimes you lose inches without losing pounds.

Pack your snacks. Buy a small cooler-style lunch bag. Take veggies, nuts, string cheese, hardboiled egg, peanut butter, etc. You can get salads and grilled chicken at some fast food joints and fill up a water bottle with water from the fountain. Sometimes when you feel hungry you actually need more water.

At my internship job I pack a lunch but our fridge at my store is broken. I don't know what to eat without putting it in the fridge.

You can get little cooler packs that you freeze overnight and put them in your lunch bag in the morning. I used to do it when I was in school and took a lunch. It'll keep your cold stuff cold all afternoon.

Anything that you have in the fridge overnight is going to be perfectly fine by the time it's lunchtime. If food spoiled that quickly, the human race would have died out long ago.

Try a cold pasta salad - 1 oz whole wheat pasta (Careful, some of these aren't really whole wheat, they are mixed), 1 roma tomato, chopped, 1 cup spinach, 1 tsp olive oil, 1/2 oz parmesan cheese (yes, it will last until lunch) and add an apple with 1/2 tbsp pb to that...

Another thought: fiber one granola bar (130-140 calories), orange, cut watermelon pieces, cucumber

    Another: pb sandwich with honey

another: hard boiled egg, salad (Again it will last until lunch, add an ice pack to the box if you are worried)

another: tuna fish (I make mine with salad dressing, chopped cucumber, chopped celery, chopped tomato - no mayo, no mustard) on bread with a fruit

I know you said vegetarian, but I wasn't sure how strict you are...but most of these can be modified. Add nuts and seeds as a good snack and plan on your big meal being after work.

Edited to add: As for the scale, when you are already thin, losing will take longer and won't be as big of an impact, so instead focus on feeling better about yourself, having more energy, and fitting into clothes better rather than one number - that number can change quickly and isn't that meaningful unless you have a ton to lose.
