I am in too. I love my beer (especially craft beers) but I am going to try and drink just on weekends versus 5-6 days a week, which is what I had been doing!!7
-
I should be in but I will probably just be a lurker. I think I could fund my retirement if I gave up drinking.8
-
Ha! I think I could too. But how boring!!1
-
I've been drinking pretty heavily and daily too. Not proud of it. I will add to my daily planner to check here and see if I can break this cycle. Thank you13

I'm in! Will likely have a drink or two while away for my anniversary (22-24) but I will be alcohol-free the rest of the month1

I'm in!! Going to just drink on football Saturdays. First game is this Saturday. It does become a habit and easy to just start doing, so glad we have this. Going to just aim to try and only drink 6 Saturday but no more than 8. And slowly cut back to just 4-6 on Saturdays.3

I am in! I have a daily wine habit that has completely derailed a lot of my fitness goals, not to mention I don't get as much "stuff" done when I am drinking. I have the USAF 10K on 16 Sep and I KNOW no alcohol at least until then would make me feel amazing. I was pretty excited to see this and am glad I am not alone.8

Count me in! Gotta find another way to relax/relieve stress. I already exercise regularly, but maybe now I'll do even more!6
-
Just what I was looking for. I'm in.3

30 days. Most of us could do almost anything for 30 days, right? Give up chocolate. Avoid caffeine. Ditch social media. In the grand scheme of things it is only 30 days. What about an alcohol experiment? Can you ditch alcohol for 30 days? - Annie Grace3

I made it through August. Will try September. Sunday evening is a big party. Will be hard.5

You can do this3 -
I'd like to lose "the menopause-eight", and I need a stress management "reset". I know that wine calories are the calories that need to go.
I'm in!6 -
I'm in! I'm heading to the lake to visit my dad this weekend and it will definitely be a challenge. Stay strong!3
-
Ok checking in daily like I promised myself. Celebrated a work promotion for a friend so failed at abstaining but did stop short of the usual! AND didn't drink when I got home. Go me! Thanks for letting me visit and post! (AND I logged the calories Poo)8

I'm in, did no alcohol and lower carbs earlier in the year and felt great. A couple of holidays later and I'm ready for another break5
-
One day down. 29 to go!

Just water at family dinner tonight. Good choice because my sinuses are killing me. Good to stay hydrated.4
-
Made it through the day. Fridays are always hard, especially when it's a long holiday weekend, and you know everyone will be partying.6

Day 1 - done! Prepping dinner is definitely my trigger...I like to drink wine while I cook. Today I had lemon-lime seltzer instead. I think I need to drink something a little more special to replace my wine ritual...something nonalcoholic reserved for when I start cooking in the evening.4

I'm in! No alcohol yesterday first day done. Let's go for our goal everyone4

Ok, I'm in too. I'm a pretty heavy drinker and I've been lucky. Never any brushes with the law. A few years ago I quit, cold turkey, for almost 3 years then slipped back. I've been on other boards but I don't have the bandwidth to split my time between MFP and the others so the support was never really there.
It's a hell of a time to start, big holiday weekend with a few BBQs on the schedule, but I'm psych'd to find friends on MFP giving this a go. I think If I could get in a "30 Day" that would be a good start.
Family and job stress have been off the charts lately so this is going to be a bumpy ride.10 -
Hi all! Kept it to one glass of wine last night. For the holiday weekend I'm sticking to one drink or less per day. In general this is what I feel best on: one drink or less each day, just a couple of days a week.
I'm formerly a heavy drinker. I live with a heavy drinker. It's not been easy changing my habits over this last year (I did a month of abstinence a few times) and it's great to have other people trying to change here.10 -

This is a great idea. Sometimes, I have sparkling water in a wine glass at night just to have something "fancy." The more days/nights I go without, the easier it is. It also helps having these threads and seeing and knowing that other people are out there that want to make changes as well.

I'm still on the moderate/abstain debate. Starting my second month of abstention.7

Which way are you leaning Fred? I think either option works. You just have to figure out what works for you.
I'm leaning towards abstaining myself. I have been trying to moderate the past five years, but not happy with how that's been working for me.

I'm the same way, tried moderating. There's too much gray area involved. What's moderating? It's different for different people.2 -
I don't do well on moderation. Wine is definitely a trigger drink. I can have 1.5 oz scotch a night no sweat. But miss the wine. Made it through last night with 2 diet cokes.
Tomorrow night at a big group party a friend asked me to be a "wine stewardess" and serve wine. Really?? I said yes and now that challenge has gotten a lot bigger. Club soda and lime might help....2 -
Ok 2nd day and I did very well yesterday. We shook up two divine special cocktails before dinner and then I was done. I shopped today and bought 4 jugs of diet cranberry juices to sustitute for my wine and will use my most lovely stemmed glasses. I bought a month of HBO on Amazon and I'll distract myself with GoT. Thank you for th place to post! Good luck all.5
