Need help adding friends.

Okay I thought this would be as easy as sending a friend request on Facebook or following someone on instagram. How does someone add another person here?

  click on the name under the picture

  ...then click their name again in the box that comes up, it will take you to their profile page, and an "add friend "

  I am trying to add people and clearly have no idea what I'm doing. I don't see the option to "add after I click the name.
