"Nah!" , says I. "I'm adding another 50 pounds to each side.
"You're lifting 280?"
"For my first rep of 12--then it's 380, then 450 then 500---but I only do 6 at 500 so far"
SWEETIE!!
Had a guy come running over the other day when I put the pin on 200 and added a 5 pound weight to the stack on leg adductor machine. "No no no---you can't do that--you have to start lower...."
I pretended not to hear 'What's that?" I say as I promptly lift the 205--12 reps from 7 apart mark to close
At least he had the good grace to laugh, and say he needs to stop assuming things when he sees women working out--he said he can only get to 160!
Not bad for a 61 year old broad---BUT as strong as my legs are I still cannot do ONE SINGLE REGULAR PUSHUP!!
This made me laugh out loud. Its so awesome!! If you're into reading at all try "What Makes Olga Run". Its about senior athletes into their 90's! (I'm 58 and plan to still be working out for years to come lol). People like you are my inspiration17 -
Fit into shorts with a 30 inch waste, in Feb I was wearing 40's.
Ran 11.2 miles in 1 hour 30 min. Plan on running a 1/2 marathon in Nov.25 -
Lots of NSVs this week.
I was looking at my stomach in the mirror and thought it looked pretty good and then said to myself its only because you're holding it in, then I realized that that I wasn't and it still looked good.
At the physio they have extra large shorts to put on while they work on your lower body. They used to fit fine but now I have a hard time cinching them up so that they wouldn't fall down.
My colleagues noticed I'd lost weight over the summer.
I only lost.5 lbs this week but I didn't get frustrated and eat because" it doesn't matter any way"19 -
Had a horrible week last week, full of binge eating and self-pity.
I'm back at it today. Fresh day, fresh week, let's do this. NSV: I didn't "fall off the wagon". There is no wagon. This is life, bad weeks will be had, dust off and move on.38 -

I feel you! I ate so much yesterday. The amount of calories I had yesterday was insane. I weighed myself this morning and I'm up by 1.5 pounds. Then I weighed myself just now and it's up another 1.5 pounds. I know it's so unproductive to keep weighing myself like this. I'm feeling awful. But I do not plan for this to be my undoing! My NSV is that I am still committed. I am not unraveling today or any other day. Bad days happen, minor setbacks happen but that doesn't change the path.13 -
I wore a racer back running shirt in public, loose armpit skin and all. It was soooo comfortable to run in compared to a t-shirt. I'm starting to realize no one is staring at my armpits while I jog.27

Vonny198334 wrote: »Vonny198334 wrote: »I have hated exercise all of my life. I only enjoy walking if there is a "purpose" such as going somewhere specific or taking the dogs.
I've tried the gym, swimming & even running but I could only stick a routine for a couple of weeks before I'd cave.
6 weeks ago I happened to see a Zumba video (the amazing RefitRev lassies) on YouTube & it looked quite fun. I did 4 songs worth & was dripping in sweat but boy, did I have a good time! Slowly building myself up I was so proud each time I mastered a routine without having to watch the girls' every move & found when I work hard, I can even keep up with them! (Crazy In Love near offed me, I can tell you!)
As I'm typing this just now, I'm soaking sweat through my (new & smaller) sportswear having just completed 8 songs - giving it my all to the highest intensity I can...back to back. Grand totalling a full 30 minute workout!
Never ever did I think I would stick something out this long & STILL look forward to doing it everyday. If I plan some time & it gets scuppered, I ACTUALLY get disappointed!!
It's even spurred me into doing strength training twice a week too ..without complaint. Not to mention I have the stamina for longer doggie walks too. My clothes are all too big & I am starting to see muscle tone under the fat all over. I don't know how many inches I've lost, but since I joined MVP 23 days ago I've gone down 2-3 on all the main body parts. A drastic overhaul of my diet has helped tremendously too & after ironing out some tweaks, I never feel hungry or deprived which I feel so fortunate for.
I know this is non scale victories, but I've lost 16lb in these past 6 weeks (7 while on MFP) & for the first time, I feel like I can keep going. My DP is me 3 years ago at my lightest in recent years. I was happy to be there but in reality, still needed to lose a lot more weight. Instead of keeping on, I let it all slide. I'm now just 3lb off that DP weight & this time, I REALLY want to go all the way. It's a long road & a hecka lotta pounds(about 100!!) but at the moment, I really feel I can do it!
So sorry for the long post, but i really am on cloud 9 today & I've not shared what I'm doing with anyone in my life except my husband. Guess I'm just worried the pressure will cause me to fail (for the umpteenth time), so if you read all of this drivel, thank you so much. It really does mean a lot!
Edit: oop & don't worry, I'm away for a shower now haha!
I just love this!! The RevFit ladies (and a few other YouTube channels like it) were my re-introduction to fitness! And then it also lead to strength training and other changes! Dancing to those songs gave me such a realistic goal to pursue (I would do the same song on repeat until I felt I could actually follow along decently) and also just made the 30mins of exercise fly. Yay!! I'm so happy for you!!
Thank you so much, your message was a real boost. So glad you also found fun in exercise with a wee bit of dancing too! Do you have any other recommendations for channels? I've just stuck with refit so far but I know there will come a time I will want to change it up!
I loved the fact they have videos for everyone to enjoy, no matter their limitations....fast...slow...medium....high impact...low impact....just brilliant! And it is boggling how the minutes just melt away!. I moved from six songs to eight when I started to say "awww, is that it??" Never thought I'd see that day!
You're welcome! I could definitely say the same for yours, it's always a real joy to me to hear of others discovering the enjoyment of exercise and what works for them!
As for other channels, I'll share the two I used the most. Dance Fitness with Jessica and The Fitness Marshall. It's honestly been quite a while since I've been to these channels but when I was visiting regularly they always had good uploads and the choreography was something I felt I could figure out after a day or so of working out to the same song on repeat Hahahaha!
And since you mentioned enjoying the variety of low impact, fast, slow and other ways to customize your workout + the mention of strength training I'm gonna name drop my FAVORITE way to workout. Fitnessblender.com !! Allllll 600+ of their videos are on YouTube/their website. And on the website you can search for the videos by low impact, high impact, cardio, recovery, duration of the video, dumbbells vs no equipment, strength training, HIIT, yoga/Pilates inspired...all the things (thus the name...Fitness all mixed up = fitness blender!) oh. And it's all free. Go check it out if you're feeling like you want to lift some weights but don't have the brain energy to decide which exercises to do. (This is my absolutely shameless motivator ) It's definitely a different feel than the dancing...I'd still call it fun but in a totally different way! Haha
Seriously, I'm so excited for you! I remember wanting to workout again as a new mama but my standby of running wasn't an option at the time b/c of some injuries + figuring out how to do it with child care. That's when I discovered the dancing! And it was a total catalyst into exercising in a variety of different ways simply for the enjoyment of it from the comfort of my own home and on my own schedule. Yay!!9 -
I bought a dress in a size down without trying it on. I'm an idiot, but I couldn't leave the store without buying it and I thought (for the thousandth time in my life) "but MAYBE I'll fit into it one day..."
One day came! I zipped it up today and can't wait for an excuse to wear it34 -
Friday morning, I had not laid out my clothes to wear, so I was poking through my closet for a particular pair of pants. Didn't see what I wanted, but spotted a pair from back then that I haven't tried since my weight loss. They fit, I wore them.
Yesterday, doing laundry. I checked the washing instructions on those pants. Lo and behold, they were size 4, not 6. I was amazed!23 -
My husband and I love taking out our canoe but we paddle more smoothly if the person who weighs the most is in the back. So for years I have been in the rear of the canoe while our friends always have the guy in that spot. To me, it made my husband seem "less manly' (the paddler in the stern is the one who keeps you on course) so one of my goals on this weightloss journey has been to weigh less than my husband, who, I should add, isn't a big guy. We took the canoe out yesterday for the first time in ages and guess who can now sit at the front. Yep. Me!!!! And we paddled that lake as smooth as silk Huge NSV for me and my only regret is that I forgot to get a picture lol34

I can zip and button a size 20!!! June 3rd I was a very tight 2450 -
Found a really cute top on sale for $15 yesterday. I didn't try it on, but thought it would be too tight and I could shrink into it. Guess what shirt I wore to work today?23

My trainer and I did an open water swim yesterday in preparation for our half Ironman relay in 2 weeks. We did more than the required distance and I wasn't wiped out.
The one that was a bigger deal to me personally was yesterday morning when my husband and I took our 2 year-old to the park. For the first time I saw her hanging by her arms and swinging off a feature on the stairs, so I decided to show her the climbing chain ladder thing. She got the hang of it immediately. I also showed her an arced staircase of bars but never thought she'd be able to do it, let alone race up. When she made it to the top, we were cheering her on and she yelled "I'm BRAVE and STRONG, Just like Mommy!" It made my day. Kid has no fear.58 -

GAH!!!! Right on! And from one old strong as hell "old broad" to another: YOU ROCK!!!! I have had similar experiences and it is such a sweet victory...... Congrats17 -
Yesterday I added another lap to my daily walks making it 7.5 miles a day now!29

I had a deadlift PR today! Funny how much more you can lift not being in a deficit! It feels great however back to a deficit, got a lot more weight to go.17

Size 10, upped to a 15 lbs weights and can finally see my collar bone.20

My legs have finally caught up to my heart, so it didn't feel like extreme torture when I was running.24

went out to eat a few times, each time i ordered from the kid's menu and i only ate half the meal each time because it was all I needed to feel satisfied. I literally share a kids meal with my 6 year old sister and she ended up eating more than I did lol20

Finally joined a gym to start lifting, thanks to all the inspirational strong women on this thread35

I'm feeling like a Debbie downer today but I think that my brain has finally "caught up" to weight I've lost already. I've been feeling myself, strutting my stuff for weeks and all of a sudden I feel like a total frump. Weight isn't moving as quickly, the fluctuations in water weight are real, and I've not been cleared to go back to running yet.
All of this sounds like a recipe for a binge.
Guess who hasn't binged in 4 months and COUNTING!50 -

On a positive note, I tried on my prom dress from 5 years ago and I think I'm going to be able to fit back into it before everything is said and done! Now, off to the gym!27 -
I did 450 on the leg-press!26

got top braces this morning, after a month of stressing about it and panicking that it'll be 18 months of treatment.
only top braces on so far as bottom teeth won't take as long to treat and my lovely dentist didn't want to overwhelm me today with both sets and elastics.
Elastics will probably be needed but definitely not until November at the earliest - possibly not until the extraction next year.
feels very odd and am popping ibuprofen to alleviate any aches, but I have begun! thanks to the phrase 'time passes anyway' I am on my way to straighter teeth!

Been on hols-off work for 2 weeks so back to work yesterday and put my nursing uniform on and ..... the sleeves don't get stuck in my armpits anymore, yay! it was so annoying!22

We're just coming out of Winter in Australia, but I think I might crank the heater a bit just to enjoy the dress for a few hours16 -

I'm so happy to be on the right path & your story is so encouraging. Really sounds like your baby has a Mama they can be super proud of! You look so fit & healthy in your DP. Really hope to be in your position one day!
I had a wee daft moment today...I have watched a refit dance I really liked the look of but when I first tried it (Life Bekah Shae(?)think about 5 weeks ago) I had no chance. I could see how to do it, it was just too fast paced for me. Decided to give it another bash this morning & I was away..kept up and everything. When it ended (talk about full disclosure) I had to stop a minute & have a wee cry...just hit home how far I've come in less than 2 months *blush*17 -
I took the littles on a bike ride after dinner last night to the park. While they played, I listened to my music and did step ups for 20 minutes on the benches adjacent to play area. When I was done I noticed another parent sitting across the play area and he gave me a thumbs up...and then said "your work is paying off". Ummmmmm blushing....22
