I just started back on MFP yesterday. This time I am serious about losing this weight. I have a wedding coming up and I'm the bride so I need to look my best. A little about what I have been doing.
I started this weight loss journey for my birthday present July 18 2017, well I have lost 4 inches overall but the scale is not moving. Also none of the inches lost was from my stomach

There's 15 weeks until New Years, are you very overweight at this point? If not then that goal might be unrealistic. Congrats on your upcoming wedding! I just got married a couple weeks ago. Remember your husband to be loves you the way you are so try not to stress so much about losing weight just for your wedding slow and steady wins the race.13

In order to see if losing 30 pounds in 15 weeks and 6 days is a realistic goal for you, we need to know your age, current weight, and height.
But in general, if losing 30 pounds will get you to your final goal weight, than 2 pounds per week is too aggressive a deficit. Shoot for one pound a week for now, and change it to a half pound when you are @ 15 pounds away from goal.
Any more creates too aggressive a deficit. I'll let other posters fill you in on the pitfalls of that.5 -
Are you serious about eating less? Are you serious about weighing all your food and logging honestly? Are you also patient enough to not eat too little?3

Having lost 65lbs for my wedding in 19 days, my advice is make sure you're ready and able to maintain your weight once you get your dress fitted. I had to halt my loss last week and start maintaining. And I wasn't ready for the emotional toll. Congrats on the wedding. If you're heavy enough, 30 lbs is doable. Best of luck with the loss and the gain of a husband!13

I think my problem is learning to eat right. I just started MFP yesterday and so far I have logged everything I have ate and drink.1 -

Is the wedding in 19 days or did you lose the weight in 19 days??? Because that's 3.4 lbs/day....5 -

This is usually the time of year when we start seeing "30 pounds by Thanksgiving" or "40 pounds by Christmas" threads popping up. Your goal is a little bit more realistic, but losing x weight by x date is often a recipe for frustration and disappointment. Perhaps it would be better to set the goal of "Weigh less than today by New Years".

You're a bit shorter and lighter than you need to be to afford 2 lbs a week unless you are extremely active. To see if it's realistic, try reducing your weekly toss to 1.5 pounds and see, does it still give you 1200 calories? Now down to 1 pound, still 1200 calories? All the way down to 0.5 a pound a week if need be. The point where it stops giving you 1200 calories is the what you should realistically expect to average losing every week.3 -
I've lost 20 in 2 months, it's doable!3

Congrats!I started this weight loss journey for my birthday present July 18 2017, well I have lost 4 inches overall but the scale is not moving. Also none of the inches lost was from my stomach
1) Stop focussing purely on the scale as it doesn't show the difference between fat and muscle loss.
2) Given you've lost 4 inches I'd say you are doing pretty well. It indicates that you have lost fat and built muscle.
3) You can't spot reduce fat so if your belly is the last to go, you'd better accept it because you can't change that.
Continue taking measurements. They are good. And exercise (weights). Find a pair of jeans or a clingy dress in your target size and aim to get in to that. But remember: What the scales say won't determine whether you'll fit in to that dress. Why? Because muscle is denser than fat, so the same weight takes up less space on your body.
Going to tag @tinkerbellang83 in this as she has a helpful visual guide for newbies when it comes to calories and loss etc.
Look at this picture. Recomping (dropping body fat in favour of lean muscle) will make you skinnier, without necessarily losing any weight. And whenever you worry about the scales not going down despite the exercise and calorie counting, grab that tape measure and look at this picture.

that is my goal as well. Good luck! I believe you can do it!1

Congratulations on losing inches! It's success that you can actually see in the fit of your clothes. (Nobody will say, "Wow, it looks like you've lost seven and a half pounds." What they might say is, "You're looking good!") Maybe you could set your calorie goal for 2 pounds of loss per week for the first month, then stop being so aggressive and reset it for a one pound per week for the rest of the time you have left. (That's what I did) You will have lost 20 pounds by New Year's. While this may not be true for you, I found that a slower rate of loss has helped me maintain the energy I need to function during the day. I need the fuel to workout and to avoid fatigue. Some of my friends have tried the Oh My Gawd I'm Getting Married Diet, and that final month was extremely stressful because they hadn't quite reached their goal plus they had to attend to a gazillion detail about their weddings. You want to enjoy the big day, not feel like a dieting failure. Set a reasonable goal, leave time for your dress to be altered, and good luck!4

Had to read that twice. You just dropped that so casually... "whose wedding coming up?" "Oh, mine. NBD." Um CONGRATULATIONS!
That being said, you might get in better shape before the wedding but as you've figured out, losing weight is not so easy. The only way to lose 30 pounds in 3 months is to create a 1000 calorie deficit every day. But ask yourself what will happen if you don't make your goal; will it make your special day more stressful? Will you still be able to enjoy yourself? Remember the special person you're marrying who loves you, presumably; they loved you before you lost 4 inches and they'll love you after. If you make your goal then great; but if you don't, I hope you can still enjoy yourself and dance your butt off and shove cake in each others' faces without care.2 -

Your loss goal is a very aggressive one, possibly an unheathy one, given your current weight. The normal rule of thumb is to lose no more than 1% of your body weight per week, and less than that if within about 50 pounds of goal.
You say that you want to look your best. Please recognize that losing too fast can risk that, via lackluster hair (even hair loss, at an extreme), brittle nails, weakness/fatigue that compromise an attractive vivacity, less than glowing skin, etc., not to mention potential for irritability or other negative mood effects at what will already be a somewhat stressful time - even if positive-stressful - leading up to the wedding.
Congratulations to you on the upcoming wedding: I'm sure you can find an approach that will add a healthy level of weight loss to your exercise successes, and leave you looking absolutely beautiful on your special day!

Thanks for the tag @rianneonamission
Understanding your calorie allowance and how it's worked out is a good start, you're at the top end of overweight when it comes to BMI so 1.5lb per week could be doable, but it is whether it will be sustainable for you. The best way to lose weight is to do it in a way that is sustainable and doesn't make you feel like you're restricted.
As some of the other posters have mentioned, you can't spot reduce fat, your genetics dictate where the weight comes off, either way you will be able to lose a good bit of weight in 3 months and if you're strength training you can see a lot of difference to your appearance in that amount of time. The scale is not the be all, end all of weight loss. You want to look healthy on your wedding day.

I've faithfully logged and weighed all food for 101 days. I am close to your stats . 36 yrs, 5'1" and currently 158
I have my deficit set to .5 a pound a week and I eat just about everything my fit bit gives me... if I didn't I just wouldn't be able to keep on. During this time I've only lost 11 pounds. I'm not saying this to discourage you, but so many times I've given myself a time limit and tried to lose aggressively. I have gotten within 10 pounds of my goal just to throw it all away because I got disgusted with how long it was taking me.(because those last 10 pounds are a killer) This time around im ok with it taking as long as it takes, and eating as much as I can while still losing. It's taken a long time to lose those 11 pounds and I have at least 20 more to go, but I'm much happier this time. It has been fairly easy staying within my calorie goal. I would like to suggest you do the same while working out. Your husband to be loves you! Don't make this a race. By the time you get to goal it will all be 2nd nature to you and much easier to maintain. Congratulations!!!4 -
Sure it can be done. As of this morning I have lost 30 pounds in 84 days, from 194 to 164, but I had to make a few changes, some substantial, to do it. But none of those required subscribing to any eating plan that cut out whole macro-nutrient food groups, or taking any weird supplements.
- I count my calories. Best I can. I weigh my food.
- I found a fitness plan I liked and stuck with it. First three days a week, then 4, now usually 6. For me that was CrossFit, which provided a good mix of strength training and conditioning. Now I love it, and I hate rest day.
- I don't starve myself. I've done that before, and I quit after 2 days, 2 weeks. I average around 2300 calories a day. I can do that because I stay active and I weight train.
- I walk everywhere I can. Seriously, I haven't filled my gas tank since early August and I've even driven on vacation. Sometimes I'll even have to take two trips to the grocery store. My toddler loves it - stroller time has become our thing. We spend tons more time together, always stop at parks or at the city beach.
- I make 90% of my meals at home. I use meal delivery services, either Hello Fresh or Home Chef for dinner. Breakfast is either a green smoothie or nothing.
- I came to terms with my late night eating. No more guilt or shame - I just plan my calories that way. I save 35% of my calories for after dinner. If there is a time or situation that you struggle with, I suggest you accept it and create an eating plan that works with it. A tight deadline is not the place to experiment.
- I cut out added sugar. NOT because I think sugar is the devil - I'm not even low carb. Simply because foods with added sugar are the ones I binge on, and if I get started it's hard to stop. I've never woken up in the morning with strawberry tops on my pillow, but Reese's PB cup wrappers, more times than I can count. Plenty of other people seem to be able to keep these foods in their diary while they lose weight. I am not one of these people.
I'm not saying you have to do all or any of these to be successful in reaching your goal. All I'm saying is that for ME, I had to do every one of these things to be able to reach the same goal in a similar time frame.
Best of luck!2
