Best way to decrease resting HR?

It is amazing how genetic impact it. When I was in an ambulance due to preterm labor (obviously a high stress situation), weighing in at 270lbs, my HR was 52. It's usually between 55 and 60. I've been a smoker all my life as well. Guess I just have a good ticker.0

Cardio is the only way to lower your resting heart rate, and even that only goes so far. My average resting heart rate now (after starting cardiac rehab a week ago) is 77. Before that it was around 89.0

I would suggest that you don't make getting a lower heart rate as a fitness goal. It is good to know what your resting heart rate is because it can indicate a number of things related to your health and fitness. It will tend to decrease with greater fitness but a low resting heart rate can also indicate health problems.0
