So I know what my max heart rate is - 188. And from what I read target heart rate should be 50% to 75% of that, which is 94-141. But when I was doing jazzercise yesterday, I actually took my pulse between songs and I think i was around 180. I may be wrong, my memory is terrible and I'm bad at math too, so I guessed at my count after class and did the math and was around 180 I think for songs for the highest intensity. I wasn't huffing and puffing either and I was at that level for about 30 minutes, then a cool down. A couple songs later and I was down to 150. I didn't take it at the end though. Is that bad or am I ok since I wasn't huffing and puffing? I know it's a good question for my doc, but I just wanted to see what you all said.

If you were not huffing and puffing you were not in the 180's. That would be anerobic and you wouldn't be able to hold that for very long...like 30-90 seconds maybe....not 30 minutes. Get yourself a HR monitor for more accurate counts.
My Max HR is 175 and I am able to sustain low to mid 160's when I run. When I hit upper 160's to lower 170's I get maybe 3-5 mintues at that.0 -
If you don't feel it.. then you probably aren't hitting that many bpm. I'm predicted to have a max bpm of 188 as well and as soon as I hit 180 I feel it in my chest. You can't miss it. I'm not saying that everyone isn't different but I'm in reasonable shape, 21 and I FEEL the change into that zone. I didn't even realize what it was until I got a HRM.
Anyway, assuming you are in that zone... I see no reason why this is an issue unless you have heart problems. I'll get up to 185 on occasion (but not for long!)0 -
