I have been suffering from a herniated disc in my low back for over 9 months now. Finally after physical therap (which made it worse), a chiropractor (who also made it even more worse), and orthopedic specialist, and a neurosurgeon my instance has finally approved some shots which I get in about 3 weeks. My question is for recommendations on exercises that are good for strengthening the core (so I can prevent this injury in the future) that will not "strain" my lower back.

And you think strangers on the internet are best placed to answer that?

You need to ask your physician and physical therapist. Speaking from experience with a herniated disc (C5). You'll have to be patient and stick within the guidelines that they give you or you are just going to injure yourself further.

Mine is L4, the patience thing is what's killing me and everything a Dr had done for me so far has just made me worse, to the point where if the injections don't work my last option is surgery

You don't think that if two professionals you were working with made it worse, that random strangers would somehow have the solution? I understand that you're frustrated.
