If I'm hungry or just needing a lil something, I'll have an extra ice coffee during the course of the day but for whatever reason I never log it. I usually have cals to spare so I don't know why....weird, right?

You?

I log everything!! I am obsessive about being precise with every recipe. It's crazy sometimes. I would rather know exactly where I am at than guessing. Guessing is what got me to the weight I was at.

i dont log the miracle whip (non fat) i put on my tuna every day. But it easily adds up to 100 cals. so from now on i'm logging that as well. No more cheating, no more denial. If i eat it or drink it, i log it.

If anything I log more rather than less, because it highlights things I might not pick up on, ie recently I found one brand of gravy granules was double calories and fat than another - and I couldn't taste the difference...that said, that's a great loss for you - we could learn something from you!

You know sometimes in the evening I'll have a second cup of coffee but I use Splenda and no cream so I usually don't bother logging it since it's only 2 calories! LOL

I am actually OCD about my logging. I even log my vitamins just to make sure I am accountable for everything that goes into my mouth. No excuses for me that way then.

I don't log my daily diet coke, mustard, marinades and veggies that are condiments (like if i put an onion slice or pickles on my burger).

Mostly things that aren't main courses or sides and have zero or few calories.

But I don't have to worry so much about sodium intake. If I did, i'd probably log these items.
  • I don't log vitamins, zero cal condiments (mustard, dill pickle relish, etc.), zero cal diet sodas (although I rarely drink one), or coffee. I guess the coffee - which isn't zero cal but close - is my one guilty pleasure.

I don't log my coffee but I also don't log every possible bit of exercise I do during the day. And my coffee only has 2 sweet-n-low packets in it. No creamer. I log it if it's a fancy starbucks type drink or anything over 10 calories.

Supplements. The other day I noticed that one of the supplements showed 10 calories per serving. I usually have some unused calories at the end of the day, so I decided that I wasn't going to nickel and dime the supplements . . .

I don't log cooking spray, since I just use a spritz, or spices, like Italian Seasoning, black pepper, red pepper, ground cumin, or Mrs Dash. Unless it's a seasoning salt, but I try not to use them.

I work for a dessert company, and we have a daily product review of everything that was produced the day before. Today, for instance, we had about six different desserts for review, and it's our duty as tasters to have a small sample of each one to see if the taste, texture and so on is as it should be. Some days I don't want to go and I let others take care of it, but many times, I am the person with the most experience with the products in the office, and I have a small bite of a cookie, a small scoop of cheesecake, a bit of this and a bit of that. I don't log any of it. It would be too difficult to figure out, and I have the extra calories.

I also have a chocolate bar in my kitchen that I broke into squares, and if I have a square, I don't log that either. It's like 30 or 40 calories so who cares?

Since I'm still in the honeymoon phase of being with MFP, I log everything.

And since I have been logging everything I eat (no matter how small), I'm amazed at how quickly those little calories add up during the day!

I don't usually log everything either, so long as I'm confident it didn't take me over my calorie limit. That said, the times I don't log are usually at the end of the day because I'd hate to not log something in the middle of the day and forget I had it... thus forgetting to account for it. What may work for you is, if it's something you have often, like that iced coffee, then figure out how many calories it is. It will be much quicker to do the "quick add calories" for something like that. That way, you don't have to keep it on your mind for the remainder of the day.

i don't log tea or energy drinks(sugar free) because it adds up my sodium figures and that freaks me out, i have hundreds of calories at the end of the day left so i always know i have the cals/fat/carbs etc left

Ditto, NEVER logged any of that! I'd never get anything done if I logged all the spices I use

I don't log everything. Basically, stuff that is 5-10 calories I feel I can safely ignore (ex: Sriracha sauce that I love is 5 cal per tsp). Really, anything under 100 calories could be considered a guess anyway. Unless you are carefully measuring every single item you put in your mouth (and I know some people are disciplined enough to do that), you are making educated guesses with calories. The difference between "a serving" varies greatly. And often the difference in brands can be 2-300 calories - FOR THE SAME FOOD ITEM. So *for me*, unless I know EXACTLY what I'm ingesting, worrying over calorie fluctuations isn't worth it.

However, I think it would be dangerous to ignore calories just because they are less than 100. It doesn't take a genius to realize that a few 100 calorie snacks here and there add up quickly. I tend to overestimate with calories to make up for not counting my black coffee or Sriracha intake. I don't enter calories burned for things like walking from my car to my desk. Think about it - if you are going to meticulously count every calorie, and you want to be accurate, you're gonna need to count it all, including anything that isn't resting as calories burned. How do I calculate at that granularity? I guess I could, but it would still be a guess.

Don't get me wrong. I log everything I can reasonably log. But I participate in a dinner share and eat a lot of home-cooked meals where the nutritional info isn't available. So I have to estimate my calories consumed with many dinners. Knowing that I don't have an exact count of each calorie doesn't bother me. I think the important thing is that I'm not kidding myself, and just be honest with my calorie estimates. I know when I'm cheating.

i'm trying to be as honest as I possibly can . . .but I find some things difficult to find. for example I made a birthday cake for my husband today . .a simple sponge cake with cream cheese frosting and I had a TINY slice of it . . .absolutely No idea how many calories are in it!! Or when I roast a gammon joint at the weekend and serve it with salad and bits and pieces . . .impossible to work out!!! I tend to over estimate as much as possible!!

    good luck :)

I try to log everything I eat or drink. even my daily coffee and sugar twin (I know it's only 2 calories a cup. but I still log it) the only things I don't log are salt, pepper, garlic, mrs dash, etc.... but for some strange reason, everytime I add Frank's hot sauce to my meals. I log it. even though it has 0 calories. (I put that ____ on everything.) lol
  • If it's like mustard (no cal, just sodium), pepper, salt, etc I don't bother logging it. Just major food & drink I log.

If it has a calorie, I log it.
  • Sometimes I don't log diet cola. I know it's 0 calories and that it's still bad for me, though I don't drink it very often. I log everything else.

Usually the only things I don't log are the butter spray and the olive oil spray I use, mainly because I only use them sparingly.
