Howdy ya'll... I'm Anthony from San Antonio TX. I recently broke my knee cap while riding my mountain bike. I am going thru PT and the recovery process and was wondering if any of ya'll had any experiences with recovering from a knee injury. I want go get back into walking/running and riding my bike again.

Hi, I broke my knee cap nearly 5 years ago to the day. It took a while to recover but I was back cycling by early 2014, so about 15 months post surgery.

I broke my knee cap last June (2016). I am in my 60's. I hit up the PT, worked out on their machines on my unscheduled days, and did exercises and stretches at home too. Did everything I could to increase mobility and heal. Cross country hiking with poles really helped. At 5 months I did a 5K (race walked on icy road). It has been a year now, I never thought I would recover this well. I have full mobility. If I sit still too long, my knee aches. The more I keep active, the better it feels. I participate in a very physical job every summer, and was able to fully work with no problems! Keep up on your PT, you will get there!! I sent you a message.

Hi, I broke my knee cap ice skating, was in a huge heavy cast from toes to hip for 4 months. Also had to keep it horizontal so was in a wheel chair (fun). I ran prior to the accident, but it's been a challenge for me ever since. I guess it may depend on your level of fitness. I gained 25 pounds :(. It's been a long while since my cast came off, but I still have trouble with it buckling from time to time. Also have noticed that my other leg seems to take most of my support all the time, I guess I was just favoring my left leg but it's giving me some right side sciatic type pain because of it. I truly wish I would've done some kind of PT, but the time I was cocky and figured I can do it myself. Stick with your PT if you're doing well in it. Good luck :)
Oh, and I guess my advice is try not to favor your other leg because you'll end up with all kinds of pain like I've got.
