Long term goal vs shorter goals

Hi,
I am new to the app and wonder how to best set up my weight goal.
I am female, 165cm and my current weight is 125kg.
At the end of the day I should lose 60kg.
Should I enter 65kg as my goal (losing 0.5kg/week) Or should enter 115kg as my goal (also at 0.5kg/week). Then once I reach 115, I'd adjust the goal to 105kg and so on.

I assume the smaller steps might be recommended for motivation (goal doesn't seem out of reach and can be celebrated quicker) but maybe their are reasons that favour the overall goal. Does this impact my calorie calculation somehow?

Don't focus on how much you'll lose per week and short or long term goal, focus on your calories intake and activeness level. If you consumed the lower amount to lose weight, doesn't matter how much you loss, it's about eating right. If you eat right, you'll eventually lose more than 0.5 a week since the heavier you weight, the higher the rate of weight loss. Search up the app tdee calculator, it will help determine the amount of caloric consumption for you. Good luck!!!!

I put in my final goal and then put mini goals in my profile to keep track of as I hit them. I like the drama of the big ticker clicking down.

Thanks, this helped answer my question: I played around with the goals in the app and the calories are different depending on short vs long term goal (even if the rate is the same). It would appear I am expected to enter my long term goal.

Thanks, I'll go with that too. How do you add mini goals to the final goal?

Ultimate goal weight shouldn't impact calorie goal. But now I am confused. What I have become used to, is that MFP calculates calorie goal using sex, age, height, weight and daily activity level (excluding exercise). The only thing it does with goal weight, is to tell you if it's too high or too low.

I like to focus on behavioral goals (what I do; simple stuff, short and sweet goals: eating and moving, day by day) and just have weight goal in the back of my mind. Because I can't do anything directly about my weight, but if I eat and move so that I'm in a consistent calorie deficit, my body has no choice but shed excess fat.

I also think you could easily lose 1 kg per week in the beginning, but that's up to you to decide, of course.

That is really strange. When I do this, I don't get different calories for different goal weights. I am using the web version, but platform shouldn't change a basic feature like that!?

I agree shouldn't make a difference which platform is used.
As to why it is different, I can only guess that if my start weight is very high and the goal weight is also still pretty high, the body burns more calories to keep it all up and running as with a lower weight. Or maybe I just did something wrong.
I just went with entering the long term goal now.

Btw love your screen name. My fav animal <3

I entered my long term goal in all settings.. then, on my profile About Me section I wrote:
    Goals:
    09/30: 170 lbs - Done, 9/29
    10/31: 165 lbs
    12/31: 155 lbs
    03/01: 145 lbs

Oh I see thanks for the clarification. I had hoped that there were milestones one could set in the app somehow (that would feed into stats/graphs)

And well done for getting your first milestone!
