Hello guys, everyone is speaking about herbalife recently. They're saying that herbalife helps you eat less and burn more calories everyday, i know nothing about this product and a bit confused.
Please anyone who has used the product before share your experience with us so we can get some information, that'd be perfect.

If you're in a calorie deficit when you're using it, yes. (it's the calorie deficit that makes you lose though)8

Never used it but no doubt you would lose weight while on the product. The daily calories would be reduced. It's just a very expensive way to lose weight.
There is also the financial structure of the company, which is hinky.

Herbalife and other supplements are excellent ways to make expensive urine. And they are definitely not going to help you lose weight expect through a placebo effect. (Though in fairness- a placebo can be a strong drug)13

It will definitely reduce the weight of your wallet.24

I use Herbalife and have been for quite some time. I lost about 65lbs originally, then gained it back due to my own failings. This time around, I'm down 28lbs so far.
It's just a convenient way to keep calories low while maintaining good nutrition without having to spend a bunch of time figuring out what I can eat and stay in a calorie deficit. It's not a placebo, nor is it anything magic. Their meal replacement shakes are simply proteins and some carbs at around 225 calories or so, along with vitamins and minerals.21 -

Ask a rep for a peer reviewed independent study backing up these claims. They can't. It's a false claim. In fact, claiming that these products help you lose weight is unlawful.
I linked this article from the LA Times in a thread earlier today. It's a pyramid scheme. Don't fall for it. Just educate yourself on nutrition and the concept of CI<CO. MFP is great for that and, best of all, FREE!6 -
Any time you're using meal replacements to lose weight, you're setting yourself up for a regain once you stop using the product and go back to your old eating patterns. Part of why I find the basic MFP strategy so great is that, although you might not lose weight as fast as with meal replacements or restriction diets, you are teaching yourself about portion size and nutrition as you go, so that you set yourself up to successfully maintain your weight loss once you reach your goal. Frankly, I'd rather be fat than yo-yo, and I'd much rather take the slow and steady route if it means I only have to lose all this weight once.14

It IS a pyramid scheme if you try to sell it. But, I personally love the stuff. I feel better when I'm using it due to all of the vitamins in it and I did lose weight on it. I say try it for a month to see how you feel. But, definitely don't get suckered into selling it.17

Do you know what else has vitamins in it? Food! It's a pyramid scheme period, people aren't trying to sell it to you because they believe it's a great product, they are selling it to you to make money.21 -

But you could get all those vitamins by eating a wide variety of foods and lose weight (if you are eating at a deficit level of calories)... w/o eating the Nutri-System meals.10 -

It's a pyramid scheme even when you buy fro them. The company structure doesn't magically change when you are 'only' a customer. You still support a business which is out to scam YOU out of your hard earned cash, and signs people up under false pretences and flog a product which is NOT PEER REVIEWED.8 -
I understand all of this. I am just saying that when I drank these shakes, I liked them. I used them as meal replacements and it worked for me. That's all I'm saying. If you don't want to do shakes, that's fine. She was just asking if this product worked and I was just honestly answering that it did work for me.7

It likely. Just your wallet.2

Link to that story in my post upthread, for those interested.3 -

So imagine if you'd learned actual good habits - might not have gained all that weight back and wouldn't need to rely on the shakes again. You'd have the habits and skills to lose weight without giving someone else a bunch of money for their pyramid scheme.12 -

Don't listen to them. I've used meal replacements before.....lost a few pounds & gained them back when I stopped using shakes.
Herbal Life could help you lose weight IF it helped you reduce calories. BUT eating regular food & being accountable for portion sizes accomplishes the same thing.
- Eating regular food is yummy - Herbal Life day after day, after day....it not.
- Regular food doesn't cost you extra money.....Herbal Life does.
- Eating regular food & being accountable for your portions is a learning tool.....Herbal Life is not.
Herbal Life helps you burn calories? - NO - this is an outright lie.3 -

^^^THIS. I used it and I lost weight. I know foods are sources of the good stuff but this had it all mixed in one product. At the time, it was convenient and I loved it.7 -
I used it about 5 yrs ago and took off 20lbs very quickly but in doing so I learned nothing about portion sizes or eating correctly for my body. I gained it all back in roughly the same amount of time it took to lose it and I believe I lost quite a bit of muscle mass because my body is squishier:( When I gained it back it came back with interest:( This year I’ve lost the same 20lbs...it took longer but I’ve learned as I’ve gone and I’m doing it the right way by eating a proper amount of food for my body and getting exercise:)

And this is why Herbalife and similar things don't work. It's not that they can't take weight off, but they do absolutely nothing for you in terms of helping you understand food, the body and how to eat for a lifetime.

I have tried their products and it keeps me very full, so yeah if it helps you stay full + in a deficit consequently, then yes it will work.6
