So 2 week ago I started the 21 raw vegan only challenge I’m mostly through my second week and all’s I have eAt is fruit or made fruit in to smoothies nothing else however during my first week I did great I lost 8lbs in 7 days but during my second week I haven’t lost anything at all I even gained 1lb but I’ve been eating the exact same thing nothing more and my weight won’t budge ts been the same all week. The only exercise I get it walking home from work and all the heavy lifting and walking I do in Work. My stomach looks flatter and I overall feel thinner but I can’t be if the weight isn’t moving it’s a really high weight aswell so it’s kinda depressing me that it’s not going down after how hard I’m trying. Any advice

Are you weighing (with a food scale) and measuring your portions?
Also, you ONLY eat fruit?0 -
No I don’t weight my portions because all’s I eat is fruit and I don’t eat so much of it that it’s possible I go over my recommended calories and yeah I only eat fruit nothing else @Morgaen736

A.) It's only been a week and a bit, first weeks loss was water weight.
B.)That is an awful diet, where are your fats and protein coming from?
C.) It's all about calories in vs calories out. You could easily be eating more than your calorie allowance of fruit... If you were eating LESS than your calorie amount for the day you WOULD be losing weight (although weight loss doesn't always show up immediately on the scales, depends on TOM hormones, bowel movements etc).
Usually I would stay stick with the plan and be patient, but not with a fruit only diet. I would advise eating a wide range of food in moderation and weighing / measuring it all and you will see a difference in your weight. Weight loss doesn't have to mean deprivation or complication!
Edited because it changed my capital B and ) to which just looked wrong!5 -
While not all fluid loss in the first week, 8lb is a lot, and possible more than 50% fluid loss. tt could be that your body was dehydrated and compensated in the second week by retaining fluid.7

Fruit can have a lot of calories. You are very likely missing out on vital minerals and nutrition by consuming fruit only.6 -
Weight loss = calories in v calories out.
Problem 1, you are not weighing your portions so when you say you are not eating that much, you are guesstimating.
Problem 2, you are not eating fats or protein which means the weight that you are losing will include muscle mass and not losing as much fat as you think.
Imho opinion this is a really bad crash diet. If you just want to lose a few pounds to fit into a dress for an event then this is ok I suppose but if you want to lose weight properly and keep it off then stay away from fad diets.

Your experience is one of many examples out there of a couple of things. First, when you make a dramatic change like completely changing your diet it generally leads to huge results quickly and then tapers off which can be discouraging. One reason for this is that when you clean up your diet and make a change like this, a good portion of that weight lost is usually water weight. You can only lose so much excess water and then your weight stabilizes. A good rule of thumb is 2-3 lbs per week maximum for good, sustainable weight loss assuming you're a healthy adult. There will be weeks, no matter what you do, that the scale will creep back up just as there will be weeks that you miraculously shed 4-5 lbs without any change. Maybe you ate less salt, maybe there was some other subtle change that spurred the loss, it may not be obvious. Either way, as long as the long term trend line is in the right direction, that's all that really matters.
The second issue is related to what you stated in your post. The scale is only one metric to measure your progress. You "feel thinner" and your "stomach looks flatter." Take some time one morning before breakfast to take measurements. measure your waist, your stomach (yes, they are different measurements), your chest, thighs, calves and your weight. After you do that, wait a week or two and do it again. When you compare the two, your weight may not have changed much but if you're doing things right then the others should start to change. Your pants will start to fit better and you will start to feel better about yourself overall. It's the long term goal that you have to keep in mind. Nothing worth doing was ever easy or done overnight. Weight loss and overall fitness gains are no different. The progress you're hoping for will take months which is why I take issue with the trendy diets like a 21 raw vegan only challenge. Once the challenge is over, then what? Start over? Fall back into old habits and lose what progress you've gained?
Something else to consider, I don't know anything about the nutrient targets of the vegan challenge but we didn't survive this long by accident. Our bodies know when we cut back on intake and they react. Your body is an amazing machine and it doesn't have any idea what a "diet" is. All it knows is that your caloric intake has decreased and it's having to change where it gets its fuel. The large caloric load of your meals was a plentiful supply and now you've changed it to something completely different and it can no longer rely on your intake to survive. We survived as long as we have because when this happens our body hits the brakes and starts changing the processes going on inside of us to preserve and store energy. The harder you fight your body with this, the harder it will fight back. It can lead to fatigue, muscle wasting (muscle is an energy hog so your body will burn it before it burns fat to save the fat stores and decrease metabolic demand) and other health issues if you press too hard. This is the reason the 2lbs/week guideline exists. You can reasonably expect your body to adapt to a diet/exercise regiment that leads to a loss of around 2lbs per week without any real risk, assuming you're a healthy adult to begin with. In short, make sure you're feeding your body. An all fruit diet is probably doing wonders for your bowels but are you getting the vitamins, minerals, fats and proteins your body needs?
The key to overall success with diet and exercise is maintaining an active lifestyle and a clean diet. There's a saying, "Abs aren't made in the gym, they're made in the kitchen" and it's absolutely true. Activity is a must for the physical fitness side of things but your long term dietary guidelines are the key to your overall health and weight.
I hope this helps and Good luck with your journey, My Fitness Pal can be a huge asset if you use it regularly.5 -
Is this some stupid Freelee thing? We're not frugivores, we're omnivores. You need to eat more than just fruit.
Enter your stats into MFP, eat the calories it tells you to, plus 50-75% of exercise cals.4 -
Your teeth will not be pleased if you keep this up.4

There is more to a raw vegan diet than fruit. If you don't know what it incorporates, perhaps try doing some research first so you can have a more balanced diet.3

If you want honest advice from a community that has....BEEN THERE DONE THAT-WORN THE T SHIRT //!
Stop!!
There is no magic bullet to weight loss lovely.
As soon as you stop this Vegan 'Cleanse', the weight will come back.
This is only short term.
Fresh fruit is nourishing. But you can have too much of a good thing.
I have done the Cabbage soup diet, The Juice Cleanses, you name it.
I have learned weight loss is forever.
Every day. Step by step.
No short cuts.
A varied and balanced diet will keep your body healthy, just as CICO and logging every calorie.
Sorry lovely.
It's not sexy, or fad like.
Just the truth!3 -
You're lucky that all the people replying are patient, kind and informative
Because in other places you might get some very sharp replies to your question.
Time to have a really good think about your long & medium term goals, your motivation to achieve them
and then to put together a plan of action that you can follow
Remember, goals need to be SMART
Specific
Measureable
Achieveable
in a
Realistic Time Frame
So good goal planning would say: I want to lose 20lbs of fat, be able to run 3km in 30 minutes, drop 2 dress sizes in 25 weeks from today
Bad goal setting would be things like:
I want to lose as much weight as possible (not specific)
I want to lose 50lbs in 6 weeks (not realistically achievable)
That's my advice: set your 12 week, 24 week, 52 week and 104 week goals and set out a healthy plan to hit each marker. There's tons of advice on here, loads of support and all the tools.
Oh and ditch the insane fruit only plan you're currently using. Immediately.5 -
This sounds like a terrible diet. If you have any personal reasons for doing this diet (and not just for the purpose of losing weight), at least eat some nuts and seeds. Do some research on what you can eat in raw vegan diet to make sure that you have some protein and fat intake.3
-
how exactly do you figure a diet of pure sugar is going to help you lose weight in the long term?? what happens when you go back to real food?? and where is your protein???4
-
losing 8 lbs in 7 days was unrealistic and simply the shock to the system that this terrible plan produces.
While you will continue to lose weight doing this given time, as you would with any calorie deficit I fail to see any logic in eating only fruit.1 -
This isn't a good diet. I love fruit, I eat a lot of it, it's where I get most if there sugar in my diet, but I'd feel terrible if I ate only fruit. Also, depending on what fruit you are eating ( some has much higher calorie content than others) you might be eating more calories than you expect. Also, it's only been a week, so it could be water retention.0

That's where your problem lies. You would be surprised on how much calories you can rack up with just fruit. An apple is 80-120 calories depending on size. But you also need the other macros. Maybe atleast try adding veggies?

Also the 8 pounds isn't fat loss. Fat is slow to come off.1
