Did your weight loss cause you to take an increased interest in fashion?

Or did you change your style of dress at all as a result?

lol. Yes. From "potato sack" to "now it fits like it should."
I'm older and I dress casually 95% of the time so that didn't change, but I look much better in clothes that actually fit up close to my body.7 -
Both.
At my heaviest I was stuck wearing my husband's shirts and sweats or ugly plus size stuff from the clearance rack.
Now I'm in the designer section wearing Nanette Lepore, Cynthia Rowley, everything brand name. I like edgy, yet feminine styles. I wear makeup more often. I like boots and heels too, now that my feet are more comfortable. I get my hair and nails done more often as well.
Basically I care more about what I look like, feel like, and how I present myself to the world with the weight off.

My weight loss did not change my fashion sense, but it did change my tolerance for grey hair. I was already wearing Brooks Brothers shirts and ties before, and do now also. I rarely buy shoes, but the next time I buy a suit will get a new pair of the highest quality Oxfords to be found under $1000.7

Yes...I'm using the $$$ I used to spend on WW for smaller clothes!!! WOW!!! :-D4
-
I feel like I have more options. More clothes that fit my body and also my body feels more worthy to be seen.3
-
Yes! When I was super heavy (90's) there were so few options in plus sizes for professional clothes, I pretty much bought whatever fit. As I got smaller, I was wearing more form fitting clothes, more dresses and skirts.
And now I've gained some weight and have kind of gone back to semi-frumpy.
Hmmm. Thought provoking for sure.8 -
yes! now i can actually wear the clothes i like instead of what fits and covers me up. looking forward to summer for the first time in years!4
-
For me, yes. Overall confidence change so I suddenly enjoy shopping and putting myself together4
-
I am more confident wearing more styles, but I still hate clothes shopping most of the time as my body is no easier to buy clothes for. Things rarely fit properly and I get frustrated - I realise I can have things altered, but that adds extra expense!0
-
I tend to buy too many things because for so many years, if it fit BUY IT...never knew if I'd find something that would fit again. Now, I can decide if I LIKE something, not just if it will go on. I am shocked when I realize I have CHOICES at the REGULAR store (nothing fancy, just Walmart, but I couldn't even wear their largest size for years)7
-
I have to say that I'm having a ball with clothes - so many things look sensational! And who knew "close-fitting" could look so good! I have recently discovered that there are often real gems waiting to be discovered at the charity shops, and I am getting a big kick out of experimenting with some different looks for just a few bucks. I figure either I will like it enough to keep it, or I'll just re-donate it... no big deal!
I find it fascinating that of the clothes I buy with equal enthusiasm, for some reason, I wear some often, and others I lose interest in most immediately: so my latest thing is trying to figure out which category an item of clothing will fall into, and hopefully just buy the things I will wear often! Happy clothes shopping everyone!10 -
I've turned into quite the shopaholic because EVERYTHING fits and EVERYTHING looks good! It's an awesome feeling but I know I'm spending too much on clothes and shoes. 3 closets in my house all full of MY clothes! May need an intervention? ??!!!8
-
In a word yes. I went from 5X to medium and dropped 13 pant sizes. So not only have I spent a small fortune on clothes this year, but for the first time in my life I've grown to actually like to shop for clothes. I'm dressing more sharply and in colors I would never have tried before, being more adventurous with style and color. It's fun.6
-
No...I've always been a t-shirt and shorts or t-shirt and jeans guy. At least I don't have a belly hanging out of my shirts these days and the new, more tapered and fitted t-shirts look fine on me...used to look ridiculous.3
-
Not really. I've always had very little interest in fashion or make up. The only thing now is that I'm not dressing in a style solely to cover figure flaws. I simply pick out things I like, and they tend to have simple lines in solid colors.
I don't really like clothes shopping, and get more excited about buying running clothes/shoes than regular clothes.2 -
For sure! But not in a way that I actually care about brands or fashion if that makes sense. I went from wearing pj pants (or "dressing up" with yoga pants) and almost exclusively wearing my husbands shirts to dressing like a woman.4
-
Not really. I've always been into fashion. Being big never stopped me from expressing my creative fashion side. I love fashion, designing and make-up. I rarely tell anyone this, i'm also losing weight because I was bored and wanted a smaller body so that i can change my fashion. I've been good so far considering everything i'm trying on now fits. I can go really crazy if i wanted to. I have been giving away all my clothes, even brand name clothes with tags, that are now too big to create room in my tiny closet. I keep complaining about my tiny closet but I'm happy i have a small closet, it prevents me from shopping excessively.5
-
Nah. I'd wear my black (or sometimes white) uniform with gold epaulets every day if I could get away with it.2
-
Not so much. I've always loved summer clothes and hated the winter clothes. So, I only purchase summer atire now and have the same clothes in the closet for years now for the winter.
I just can't force myself to buy new winter stuff...at all....I'm in denial it will even get cold.5 -
Definitely! It's frustrating, though, because I have to keep buying clothes that fit my new frame. After a few months I'm down another size or two and the clothes I just bought become frumpy again. It's happened twice now. In January I bought a few pairs of size 8's as my goal pants. Now they're all like parachute pants on me! So I bought a few 6's and they're getting baggy. It's great being in shape, but I have twin toddlers at home and can barely afford clothes for them, who are growing bigger as I'm getting smaller. Consignment stores are my saving grace...especially the ones that give you credit for trading in clothes.2
-
Very much so! Dropping 6 sizes and going from a 2XL to wearing small and medium has given me a whole world of options and variety!
When I was overweight I did the best that I could and I always looked presentable, but I had to settle for what fit me. I compensated by focusing more on accessories...earrings, bags, bracelets, shoes etc.
I lived in wearing darker colors to hide my imperfections. However, I knew one day things would be different. I didn't just dream, I knew I was going to be able to do the choosing...
I put in the work and now I am having a blast with fashion! I attended a gala recently and I felt like a princess trying on all of the fabulous dresses that fit me right off the rack. Plus wearing heels is so much easier for me when I don't have all of that extra weight to support.
I love lots of color and clothes that hug my figure. Hey, I work really hard!
When picking out clothes to try on, my size still look too small when I hold it up, but it fits when I wear it.
Thing's aren't all perfect though. There's an 11 - 12 inch difference between my waist and hips. I have a seamstress that tailor that makes my non-stretchy clothes to fit my figure. I can't wear jeans off the rack because they leave a gap at the small of my back.
These are super minor things compared to what I used to go through with clothes when I was overweight.5 -
It's about control. When a person decides to lose weight they take control of their diet and body. Since they now have control and in better touch with their body they have better control of what they want to wear. You start liking your body more too. When you are overweight you tend to worry more what other people think, you wear the clothes that fit, and are more worried about fat or skin showing. In other words, you don't feel much in control.1
-
Yes 100%! I gained a lot of weight my junior/senior year of college and all of my clothes became way too small on me. I wasn't comfortable in anything so basically my social life dwindled a bit because I was choosing to stay home in my sweatpants and oversized t shirts. Now that I've graduated and lost most of the weight I'm having a blast shopping! I'm definitely playing around with more styles and have gotten excited over pices of clothing in my closet that are finally fitting me like they should again2
-
Definitely taking my appearance more seriously but at the same time weary of buying more clothes as I still have a few kgs to go. But was told this week "dont wear those jeans again"1
-
Yes! Used to love clothes shopping until I got huge and then as long as went round me I pretty much bought anything that fitted, now I love trying on different styles and outfits, still feels a bit weird picking up a size 14 instead of 22 though as I still see the fat me in the mirror.1

I saw a size 6 Calvin Clien black shirt dress in the thrift store 2 days ago and
I
Want
It!
But I’m still wearing a 8/10 in dresses0 -
Nope. I just by more gym clothes.
I do have some formal wear clothing and nice clothes IF I have to attend something, but you'll usually always see me in gym clothes.

It has a bit - but I still get rather intimidated shopping in the non-plus-sized section.. there are SO MANY more choices. I get overwhelmed fairly quickly. I've never been much of a clothes shopper, so this will take time. I am going a little more funky than I was - mainly due to the availability of more interesting options. Every once in a while I will get brave and venture into a new (to me) store to see if I can fit in the clothes and what they have.
I'm also finding I steer clear of shapeless clothes. While I still have a little ways to go, I am less inclined to try and hide myself like I had been for so long.0 -
Definitely - actually, I would say it re-awakened my fashion sense. Overweight, I would wear whatever would fit. Now, definitely enjoy styling - fashionable clothing, accessories, makeup, hair, the whole bit!0

Yes. Maybe dangerously so. When I first lost the weight I went out and bought a new wardrobe for the upcoming fall season. It was such a heady experience to have so many current outfits in my closet that I resolved to keep buying new clothes with each season. It's gotten to the point that here I am, at 56, looking at clothes I bought only a year ago with the eye of an indulged teenager, "That's soooo last year".2
